Why would you want games to be shorter? I can understand movies feeling too long, but something you play?

You don't get an award or cash prizes for beating games, unless you really want to wrack up the "games beaten" number on your profile.

If it is a game that doesn't need to be beaten in one sitting and has a save system just play it until you are tired of the gameplay, then pick right back up when you get the urge to play again. I don't think you need to worry about forgetting the story in a Sonic game.

Why would not want the option of being able to experience more new stuff of a game when you decide to revisit it?

Well if you have 10 hours a week to play games and a Sonic game happened to be 15 hours long then it takes 2 weeks to beat the game instead of 1. After playing every world without warping? That I could understand on the NES version. But the All-Stars version has a save feature and emulators have save states.

Overall it shouldn't take more than 3 to 5 hours playing the whole game in one sitting, assuming you are not dying a lot and needing to use continues.

Maybe Pipe World is just a frustrating section of the game that would still cause you to lose interest even if it was the 2nd World instead of Desert.

all you have to do to get to world 8 is beat 4 levels - stage 1-1, 1-2, then get the warp whistles from 1-3 and the mid-boss castle. warp from the world 1 map, then warp again from the warp map itself. it skips to world 8
