I liked it for the multitude of characters and for all the cool different fatalities. I especially thought the animalities looked cool. It's something zoomers probably can't appreciate, since cheat codes aren't a thing anymore and everything can be seen on YouTube now, so there's no surprise or cool looking graphics. I do kind of like that both costumes in T4 are like updated versions of old costumes, the beetle one is like his 2P costume in 2 and 3 and his alternate is like his costume in the original game. Still not the biggest fan of the beetle one though, I guess to me it doesn't really feel like Yoshimitsu but that's more of a preference. Julia's is the jeans/glasses P2 outfit from T4 though. Anna's is the qipao from T5. Lei's costumes have never really changed since T2. Scorpion became the mascot/face of Mortal Kombat but initially it was supposed to be Kung Lao, he officially won the first 4 tournaments, they kept pushing him as the Ryu of the franchise but it never stuck.
They did try to make Sub-Zero into a more important characer and even gave him his own game to try to make it happen but even then it didn't really happen.
Scorpion was seen as an expendable character which is why he was not even in MK3. It wasn't until the fifth game where they realized Scorpion was their go to character, they killed Kung Lao,
and made sure Scorpion was in every game along with Sub Zero. But even then Sub Zero wasn't in Tournament Edition, the only character that made it to both GBA games was Scorpion (and quanchi/shang tsung since they're the final boss)
