Which ones your favorite? For me it's Starsiege.I I love the gameplay, soundtrack, and general atmosphere.

Front Mission for a more grounded experience and Starcraft out of nostalgia. MechCommander and MW4 are my favorite games from the BT series.
I should try out the Wh40k games but I've always seen the franchise as very overblown and 'rocambolesque', for a lack of a better word.

Cool, Which MW4 title do you prefer? Vengeance or Mercenaries? As for 40k, I'd recommend something like either Dawn of War or Spacemarine, the franchise is ridiculous on purpose but I do think some people take it to seriously.

Honestly I prefer Earthsiege. Starsiege made them wack, and especially tribes really butchered the series.
Also the duel arena spin-off Battledrome.

I like to play through the base game and expansions equally, but I actually enjoy Black Knight the most; there's the routes and mission variety in Mercenaries and the story (as cheesy as it is) in Vengeance, but I like the progression and mission difficulty in BK, especially the canyon ambush, destroying the MODLs, escaping the Steiner ambush and obtaining the BK, and more.
I've seen many preferring 2 and 3 more, but I find myself reinstalling MW4 every now and then to go through all the missions again.

Starsiege: Tribes is one of the greatest games ever made by the human race and I will never, ever change this position.

I never did play the precursors though. How were they?

How come Activision failed so much with their Heavy Gear after that huge success with Mechwarrior 2?
Anyway, even though G-nome was meh, I have a kind of soft spot for it.

I wouldn't say they failed. It got a sequel after all, but compared to battletech and even the earthsiege universe, it was an unknown. Also the first game probably didn't make the best impression since it played exactly like MechWarrior 2.

So awesome Tribes 2 is still alive today.

Both Heavy Gear did well, the problem was the by the end of the millennium consoles became again the main platform, and nobody was developing games that needed more than a handful of buttons.
Flight and space simulators disappeared at the same time.

Sony sold their soul to satan so the PS2 would be a success, little they knew that people used it only to play DVD movies because it was cheap.

speaking of 'siege spinoff, there's also Cyberstorm. guess they had to clone Battletech too. I do find it rather amusing that they had real-time implementation in the second game, roughly at the same time as MechCommander.

Wasn't there also a G-Nome RTS spin-off? Can't remember the name.

The ones i had (and played the most) were EarthSiege II and G-Nome. I prefer ESII because it had really solid engine and controls, also flying segment was great. G-Nome was alright but very barebones in terms of gameplay, with no customization whatsoever and no variativity in missions.

Storm over Gift 3. It was supposed to be a G-Nome spinoff, and retained some of the assets (that is visible in the intros), but Ion Storm finished development as its own thing.
