One of you guys uploaded a package with translated ROMs some time ago. Today I finally looked through it and thought it would be a good time to fire up SMT. I couldn't get far, when that stone face suddenly talked to me I noped out of it. I just can't stand the whole atmosphere, but on the other hand I'm fascinated by it.

Short: Pre PSOne SMT Thread.

Would you happen to have the link to that package?
I missed it and I've been wanting to play old good smt

The atmosphere of the first 2 SMT games are my absolute favorite things about them. It took me a while to get used to the overhead view and sparse dungeon maps too, but after I got used to it and started to imagine them as ruined, deserted cities filled with the deluded, insane, and desperate, demons swarming all over, I couldn't get enough of it.

Unfortunately I only got to Shinagawa in SMT1 before I decided to throw in the towel; I'm really just not cut out for RPGs in the monster collecting/training vein. Not to mention the interface in those games are pretty tedious to deal with, even with the L-map-button hack.

Anyway, enjoy.

Remember that in the first SMT, you're forced off neutral at one point, and have to do an alignment shift in Tokyo Destiny Land way later in the game.
also neutral gives the best equipment

Are those english versions?
does such version even exists?

Sorry, I'm new here!

Unfortunately no

>monster summoning computer software
>every monster imaginable roaming everywhere in the world

The atmosphere is very good, I admit. But, plot-wise, SMT isn't good. It's like a dark, gothic version of Pokemon, but with a much more serious tone.

Haven't taken a look at the links, but translations for SMT1+2 exist. Theres also an additional patch for SMT1 that correct some game breaking bugs & standardised the spell names. Think theres another patch for SMT2 also (or at least in the works)

SMT1/2 are probably the most immersive experiences on the SNES. Loved the soundtrack too

The first couple of SMT games have awesome atmosphere and music, but I just can't stay interested in them due to how dated the game mechanics and story are.

Why are messians such assholes shitting up the law alignment?

I love how 80ies styled SMT2 is in terms of music. really fun stuff.

game mechanics are a bit clunky, sure, but come on, the stories in 1 and 2 are fantastic. how do you even say that a story is "dated?"

Is Devil Summoner discussion fair play?
Because /smtg/ is translating it (I think the PSP version)

The first Devil Summoner was released originally on the Saturn, so I can't see why not.

>> No.943746

Ooh SMT1 huh
This game is really dated. It's fun if you're willing to commit, but the dungeon crawling is slow and confusing, and the map is hard to access.

Combat's easy enough though. Just remember, you can cheese any and every boss using Zan.
