I have never owned a PS2 Slim but I am thinking about picking one up. Is there any major differences between the two systems besides not being able to use the stock HDD?

it boots up games faster than the fat by a couple of seconds provided it's in good, working condition.

I figured that might be the case. Thanks for letting me know. I mainly want one since I have only ever owned the fat PS2. I think the PS2 slim is a great design. I love the original PS2 look too

It's a marvel of engineering, late slims especially with the integrated PSU are remarkable. I prefer fats for their feature set.

I've still got my 'ol fatty, but a buddy of mine had a slim and it seemed to run real well.
Like this anon said >>9405495 ,
it seemed to be a bit more optimized.
The only issue I can remember off-hand is the X Files game for PSX has some graphics glitches, but that's the case for the fat too, so.

it's incompatible with some PS1 games and runs poorly/worse with some games like silent hill 3 but not a single one of the incompatible ps1 games are any good so its not a big deal

early 70k slims are basically slightly shrunk 50k fats and should have the same compatibility. its later ones that are more spotty.

I agree, the PSOne redesign is my favorite console design of all time. I would love to own one of the LCD screens but it's way out of my price range currently. Plus, it's basically only a novelty at this point

This is good info. Thanks. For some reason I remembered it might of had some issues running a select few oddball PS games

Better start working out. Those things weigh hundreds of grams.

It's a pretty good portable screen if you get a composite-in adapter for it, I use mine pretty regularly to test out new consoles on my desk instead of having to hook shit up to my CRT. I wouldn't pay 200$ for one but I get some use out of it.

70K's are basically identical to the point that it's actually possible to mod an HDD connector back in. They are known to have heating issues.

75Ks and beyond use a new software solution for PS1 backwards compatibility which can cause compatibility problems from games expecting the old PS1 backwards compatibility hardware.

They're also more reliable than early slims.

90K's may be incompatible with FMCB (can't tell without testing it) but they have other solutions for CFW so it's not a big deal.

I played Jackie Chan Stuntmaster fine on my 75K TROUGH POPS and It worked fine.

I guess that the list only aplies when yoy play retail/disk games, so many of the games listed there may work fine.

It's always been my quest to find one for cheap but I have haven't really looked. The price on the current second hand market is beyond insane. I was slightly worried about the screen quality. It's good to know it's high quality for the time. I have seen them in person, but I honestly don't remember
>>9408087
Wow, I have no idea the capability was so spotty on the slim PS2. I feel bad saying that, when the PS and PS2 library is so huge. It never crossed my mind it might have issues running PS2 games
>>9408067
I keep hearing it can get hot, how hot are we talking?

The 70k gets hot to the touch, but for later consoles it isn't an issue.

There's been a new way to do FMCB on 90k for a while now, it's called FunTuna
