The Battle of Olympus is more like a middle ground between Zelda 2 and Metroid. It doesn't have Zelda 2's overworld, exp system, random encounters, etc, going with a Metroid style instead.

The game does look great especially for 1988. It plays really well as well, my only nitpick would be a couple of things progression wise may be a bit cryptic but it's not Castlevania 2 cryptic either, it's nothing a kid wouldn't have figured out on his own in the 80's/90s

Best NES/Famicom game that's inspired by Zelda 2/Metroid is Cosmo Police - Galivan though. Environments may be more drab, but the game is tons of fun.

I found it to be a pain in the ass, personally, the first enemies of the game are blobs that are so tiny that you can't strike them with your club, even if you crouch and swing. So you have to wait til they're in the air before you can kill them. One of the more notable early encounters is with a Gorgon that spams arrows at you and it's a bitch to close the gap to kick her ass. Shortly after that you'll get a staff that can be upgraded to shoot fireballs, which is cool, but you'll most likely want to drop into the nearby cavern with the fire serpents to grind them out to get the snake skins for another upgrade you'll want later.

These snakes are pretty small and fast, and ufnortunately for you they're immune to fire, so you're gonna have to put your ass on the line to melee them. Grinding for olives, this game's currency, can also be kinda tedious too. The game's just full of constant small annoyances I just gave up after awhile. I didn't even mention the forest door maze or some of the bullshit the later dungeons pull. There's cool shit in the game though, I fucking love Greek mythology stuff, and the fact you need to kneel before the gods to speak to them is a nice touch, you can also get magic sandals to invert your gravity so you can walk on ceilings. I just can't be assed to try and beat it.

TL;DR cool game but there's a lot of small annoying shit that filtered me.
