First time blasted through the Quake 2 yesterday, finished the first half on hard+. It was so relaxing - non-stop movement, gibbing, lack of difficulty, I just want more. I’d stick with Reckoning on Hard+ and GZ down to Hard if you’d like, playing around the lack of hitstun can be fun and satisfying but not everyone can be blamed for wanting to “get on with it” after those turrets. Also consider the fact that any “vanilla” map or levelset can be played through the expansions. This also extends to modded sets like Citadel, it has a great set of enemy changes that makes replaying the base campaign a lot of fun. Citadel might be my biggest recommendation after you beat GZ but Zaero is a good choice as well. Sonic Mayhem is orgasmic but careful, playing his maps may spoil you and they tend to not fuck around.

Of all the Doom engine games, I think Heretic is the most replayable. The difficulty is just perfectly adjusted to make pistol-start runs so much fun. It feels like they got 100 testers to fine-tune every level, every weapon, every enemy to make the perfect challenge on difficulty 5, pistol start.

Final Doom is also very replayable on UV pistol start.
Hexen and Doom1 are a tiny bit on the easy side.

Strife is very very good but difficulty 5 is a little too hard and difficulty 4 is a little too easy

E2L1 (Peaceful Rest Valley): Maybe add a few medkits before the final fight. I entered it with 11% health and did not have a good time. Maybe also add some ammo (maybe just a shell box) in the real exit room to deal with any remaining enemies.

E2L2 (Plutonica): All these ledges to jump to, yet none contain any secrets.

E2L4 (Acid Vats): I think the tag 555 door is meant to open after killing the cybers, but I'm not sure. Either way it didn't open for me.
Maybe handle the teleporter in the acid in the cyberdemon room differently. I got killed by a rocket 90% of the time I used it, since it briefly locks you in place.

E2L5 (Exspiravit Oppidum): The button to activate the lift taking you out of the first room doesn't seem to be animated. Also there's the graphical thingy in the screenshot.

E2L6 (Popquiz, Hotshot): I'm so glad the "real" exit isn't required for UV-max.

Stick to the loose files in the 'vr' folder for working on the project. You don't need the QuakeC source files unless you want to contribute code. When there is an update, sort files by date modified so that you aren't constantly re-downloading everything.

These don't really require them to be a separate entity, I'd just need to code new spawnflags. The only issue would be if you want animations for those things (though the thought of a shambler simply jumping up and down as an AoE attack is amusing me).

Well for the hypothetical multiplayer affair keep it as is, but in regards to the singleplayer content - in adittion to the 'kinda meh' amped-up damage they should speciffically have -50~60% armor reduction applied before the damage calculation (so that foes buffed via this well-known map hack won't feel absurdly brittle against it), also if there's ever gonna be any monster planned with an "invulrebable state" like the shielded MegaEnforcer or FiendMother to be incorporated into VR 2.0 - the weapons using LavaNails weapon would still be capable to bypass their shields at a drastically reduced firepower (maybe about 20~30% of their base dmg, just like it happens against a DM player who's equipped with a PowerShield artifact and attacked frontally)

E3L3 (Bloody Pulp):
I guessed this was the same author as E2L4 based on the archvile usage, and that turned out to be right.
The secret where you shoot a painting is probably a bit too cryptic, especially since you have to stand on a staircase to actually hit it, and at that distance it's pretty dark. Maybe light up the painting or just place it lower.
There's another secret that's supposed to open up when you pick up the automap, but I managed to pick it up without going over the linedef.

E3L5 (Washed In Filth):
The doors of the archvile teleport chambers in the Northwest are audible from the play area and confused me for a bit. Maybe put these farther away.
After going through the blue door you can just SR40 to the platform with the fake exit.
There's a switch with like 5 S1 trigger lines stacked on top of each other. If the player presses it at an angle they might not hit all the lines, and will probably be stuck in the map for a long time. You can probably do this with a voodoo doll instead, or put the switch in a narrow section so you can't press it from the side, and/or extend the passthrough linedefs on both sides.
Also there's a graphical glitch going on in the screenshot here.

E3L6 (Recycling Complex): A map so nice I played it twice. Not sure what was up with the teleporting armor bonuses though.

Regular shotgun shoots a small stream of arcing flames over a medium distance, super shotgun fires double the amount but with significant spread and less forward velocity. Each flame does a small amount of impact damage + (re)sets a damage over time on the hit monster. More armor = less DoT damage.

Just don't go ripping assets from other games, slap 5 maps copypasted maps and selling your shit for $5 or some shit like the fucking scumbags that plague mobile phones. Actually put in the goddamn effort. It doesn't matter if you make the game in GZD or some other port or whatever. The engine literally doesn't matter as long as it's not some tech demo garbage that only lasts at best 5 minutes or is some proceeduraly generated same room faggotry. Make your dream IWAD and actually make it play good and be fun to try out, THEN maybe consider selling it. I'll still pirate it, but at least you made something to be proud of, at least, I hope.

I don't recall off the top of my head but there has been some that have tried that and got immediatly btfo'd from community backlash and fallen into obscurity or infamy. What I've seen most commonly has just been repacking existing mapsets or mods and selling them physically in CDs and shit, but it's more of a case of me being stuck in a second world shithole with no laws rather than modders being malicious.
