So someone a long time ago asked to see this just for the funny.

Here's a game running with a Sony Trinitron filter on a Toshiba CRT.

Surprisingly enough all it really seemed to do is darken the image and cause a more noticable flicker. I guess that speaks to how far CRT filters have come.

The picture before was on real hardware and an OSSC, but I don't actually play that way. I was just being a dick. The emulation thing you mentioned is what I do, essentially. I use a MiSTer connected to said VGA monitor for almost all games I play. I have an OSSC from before I had the MiSTer. I use the MiSTer for all consoles pre-Gamecube/PS2 era except the N64. So, the OSSC is only pretty much used for the N64 and for 480p Passthrough/signal cleaning. I don't have much choice as far as N64 stuff goes, but I think it doesn't look that bad. Here is Mario from Super Mario World running on a line doubled MiSTer core on the same monitor.

I guess it makes sense since its the same difficulty youd have with real hardware, but damn. I need to find some sort of scaler solution to play vertical games without flipping my bigass 27 inch TV over, or to play Computer games in general without hooking it up to my flat panel.

For now Im just using my flat panel for both with shaders - its nice that I can have them both hooked up at once.

For any standard analogue signal (480i/480p/720p/1080i) I would rather use a PVM/BVM because not only it's a plug and play solution, but also because I'm sure the signal wont get mistreated like what you see in most converters/scalers.

Now, if I want higher resolutions and refresh rates, of course the PC monitor is the clear winner. It wouldnt make sense to display PC content on a PVM/BVM.

*VGA is RGBHV.
RGBS/SOG compatibility, besides being relatively uncommon for most monitors, was meant for oddball signals output by Sun/SGI workstations. PC monitors by large are RGBHV.
Most consumer electronics such as DVDs, cable boxes, video game consoles and so on deal mostly with 480p using YPbPr.
The PS2 is the exception and can use 480p SOG, which would allow you to plug the console directly into your VGA Monitors. But in general support is very spotty because it was originally meant to be used with the Linux kit.

Learn the spells well and best places to use them. Take advantage of the infinite lives the game offers to re enter levels and stock potions. I don't particularly recommend moving through it slowly (the hourglass mechanic discourages this anyway, you want to move as fast as reasonably possible) until you get to the second plane. Those fire levels require some trial and error but can be conquered with careful platforming. Learn the crouching roll move, it is literally essential to jump a gap at the end of one of the ice levels just before a boss.

Ive sat with this problem for a few years. Never had time, but I do now. I wanna ask for some sort of guidance. I have a discoloration on two corners, I think it might be two color beams. Not sure.
I've tried rotating purity rings, but it does nothing, however if I rotate them all, the discoloration will inflate into one corner and deflate on the other. Almost "rotating" itself too.
I've tried to push the yoke in and out, but to no avail, the discoloration still persists. I think I saw what-his-facde on youtube with a similar issue and he did that, but it didn't fix this.

Do you think I need magnet strips?
Do you think I should get the yoke properly pushed in?

Any guidance or suggestions would be cool. Thanks.

>> No.9297163

>>9297156
Try putting a magnet to it, something like a super X-5 strength magnet that will align the carthodes within the TV to their optimal performance. I ran into that issue a few years ago and it was resolved once the lagooze catrode was fully resolved and relaxierated within the next of the power supply.

Any more and you may need to have it looked by a certified Teletrician in your area to be honest. Good luck.

>> No.9297165

I had a similar problem on a small TV. Moving some fridge magnets around the corners of the tube fixed the issue. Since your discoloration is much worse, you should probably check how loose the yoke is too.

>> No.9297168

>>9297156
I would see what's going on with the yoke. I've seen this with my buddy's tube (who passed away recently, I hope his CRT TV is in a good home). It will need to be pushed in. The discoloration you're seeing is from a cross-intereference from signals leaking out of where the yoke should be seated. In order to fix this, you either need to hire someone off craigslist to hold a magnet in place (in shifts is how I did it, multiple people paid minimum wage) or you need to figure how to seat the yoke tightly in. As my grandfather once said it always goes back to the yoke before you choke and can't use it.

A P1130 code is a manufacturer specific diagnostic trouble code that occurs with Toyota, Lexus and related makes and vehicles when the ECM/PCM detects a problem with the Air/Fuel Ratio Sensor Circuit. A sensor that measures the amount of oxygen in the exhaust gas produces a voltage based on this. The PCM (Powertrain Control Module) can use this information to make short-term fuel adjustments to keep the air-fuel ratio within acceptable limits for excellent exhaust system performance. An air/fuel ratio sensor, on the other hand, is based on a voltage difference between two independent measuring elements, allowing for the maintenance of a stoichiometric mixture.

I find shit on the side of the road all the time. So eone two hours south of me had a listing for an iMac g3 they left in plastic container free for grabs.
The one thing in CA you rarely see is wood paneled console TVs. So I grabbed one of those for 10 dollars. Been trying to repair it... Might just look for a new one.

Let me guess AK11 chassi and a Oriontube?
Looks very similar to my Schneider 3666.

Also, anyone ever been pleasantly surprised by these low end sets? I picked up a Mark branded CRT which was considered low tier trash here in the Nordics. Surprise and behold it had a Philips tube didn't expect that

Never opened it, but its a decent set, late 80s.
It has a green yoke

You sure that's a late 80s set?
I get more 1991-1995 vibes.

Does a PS3 work fine on a CRT? I have a flatscreen 16:9 set with RGB SCART cables so that's not a problem at least.

Only thing it can’t do is 240p. It can do 480p with sync on green if your tv is hd

Pretty sure because its from quelle, seems to be an east german import.
Quite possible im wrong, but service documentation and the fact that the osd is very primitive and AV is simply on channel 0 instead of having a dedicated av switch makes me think its late 80s.
The picture quality is also a little too good for being one of those cheapo 90s sets, because the dot pitch is actually very decent whereas mid 90s small tvs usually have a very coarse pitch from my experience.
Havent even been able to find a remote online sadly

not that i'm aware of. i should note that i do not have the original remote, but there is no sleep timer setting on the control panel. doesn't seem like it would be the issue as it cuts out immediately (scene transitions usings black, for example).

Sounds like a problem with your modulator tbqh. Do you have a vcr or some such with a coax out that you can plug in and test?

yeah it kicks back on after the transition.
you're probably right about the modulator. i'm just using some cheap RCA shit i bought off ebay kek. unfortunately i don't have anything to test with. do you have any recommendations on decent modulators?

My original problem was trying to use the GCHD Mk2 with HDMI > RF converter which scaled the picture to 16:9, yet gave me a squashed picture. Don't ask me how that makes any sense!
I instead ended up using an old N64/GC RF plugin that gave me a nice 4:3 full screen picture, but at the cost of a slightly darker/less sharp picture. Oh well! I've got me 1st/2nd gen porkymans on a sweet tv now! It's not as dark as the picture implies, it's still bright enough in person.
