Can we talk replacement batteries? I am already having to replace replacement batteries that I installed about 5 or so years ago. Meanwhile, I have carts from the literal 80s that still work fine with their original battery.
Why are are the second hand batteries so shit compared to the oem ones? Does anyone have a source for the good batteries that last like 15-20 years like the oem batteries. I would pay more for good batteries easily.

inb4 poorfag zoomers tell me to just emulate

quality of ALL items lately is way down
everything is disposable now

i suggest installing battery sockets
and maybe getting a sram backup solution for pc or retron 5 or something
then atleast your saves are secure

i just replaced the batteries in all my pokemon carts - i will be pissed if i go to use them 2 years from now and they are fucked\leaking

I am a solder whore, but you’re gonna lose your save when you replace the battery. Or you already lost your save and that’s why you’re replacing it :(.

So was the cartridge SRAM battery. They soldered it into the board instead of making it easily removable to save 2 cents.

Like I get what your saying and you make a valid point but I would rather keep my games looking somewhat like they should on the inside and not look like some highscool electronics diy project when you open it up. No fucking wires. Besides, you would still lose your hard earned save data when the battery dies or you swap it out.

Where are you getting the batteries from? You need to get a good brand of battery like Panasonic, not Chinese shit like you're probably using.

Next time you change a battery, check the branding on the old battery and the new battery. Most likely you're buying unbranded shit. That's why it's better to get a battery holder and get some cheap Panasonic coin cells without the tabs to throw in. Or do an fram mod.

You won't lose your save if you swap the battery while the game is powered on.
