SD3 is just an overall improvement over SoM in just about every aspect.

SD3 really is a vast improvement in many ways and feels more polished as a whole, yet I still prefer SoM. Perhaps it's nostalgia goggles, but I felt much more invested in SoM. I didn't care much for having to pick your main character and party in SD3 either. I know it adds replay value to them game, but I hate having to choose. Same thing with the class advancement too. I hate having to pick because I want everything at once.

Definitely SD3. Better in almost every imaginable way.

Personally I liked SoE more than SoM but hey that's just my opinion.

You can't really go wrong with any of them...except 4. What a massive disappointment.

>> No.928232

Of these two, I'd go with SD3, but I like Legend of Mana better than both of them.

confirmed for having your own opinion which I respect.

I seem to be in the minority, but I like SoM better than SD3 in just about every respect. I like the class advancement system, having a choice of characters, and the somewhat higher difficulty in SD3, but otherwise it felt like a step back. It's been too long since I've played either for me to give any in-depth criticism; but SD3 just didn't feel anywhere near as polished to me and it failed to fix any of the significant issues with the combat system. If I hadn't known otherwise, I would have assumed SD3 came out before SoM instead of the other way around.

Both games are definitely worth playing though.

We are certainly in the minority good sir. I agree with you for the most part about the gameplay. SoM is simpler than SD3 and some people like that while others don't. I do however disagree when it comes to graphics. I feel SD3 has better graphics as it should since it came out a couple of years later than SoM. SD3 feels like it had a higher production value to me as well.

After thinking on it further and looking at a few screenshots to help refresh my memory I will agree that SD3 is superior graphically. Some of those big boss monsters are pretty cool looking. I was put off slightly by the character designs on the character select screen when I first played it; and I played SD3 not that long after having played the absolutely beautiful Legend of Mana, which may have hampered my perception a bit.

I would also need to replay SD3 sometime to judge the music fairly now that I think about it. I believe the emulator I was using at the time may have had some issues with producing accurate sound output, whereas I played SoM on an actual SNES.

SD3 is complete crap compared to SoM (which is complete crap compared to FFA). Horrible, ultraclunky controls, boring, useless classes and a story that completely falls apart the second you reach Wendell. The only thing that improved were the graphics.
