This is just a late night thread for board regulars to talk about all manner of retro games, with the intention being to give late night browsers/posters on here at least one active thread. I like /vr/ a lot more than other places, so hopefully this will work.

Maybe for a first topic, what is the best Sega 32X game? I was always really fond of Kolibri.

I really enjoyed the DOOM port.

I just got a really nice usb controller so I've been having a blast emulating games for all these (semi) obscure systems I never had as a kid. Havn't played any Sega CD yet. What are some essentials someone who wants to become familiar with system should play?

I heard it was really good, I guess my feeling on it is if I was going to play Doom, I'd do it on the PC.

On a side note, 32X was really a piece of junk though, at least as far as durability. There is not a fucking more delicate piece of shit in gaming out there.

Edit: meant 32x but Sega CD recs are cool too.

Yeah, if you want to play DOOM, play it on the PC, but if you want a console version go for the N64 or 32x.

Lords of Thunder, Sonic CD of course, Snatcher. Stay away from all FMV games like the fucking plague. I also was fond of Dark Wizard, but I know some who weren't.

this was on hard copy back in the day from butthurt soccer moms.

Alright, so my $30 came in from Club Nintendo, and I decided since Shantae was available for $5, I'd download it.

Here's what I like about the game:
>attractive, well-drawn sprites and graphics
>nice tunes and environments
>has that adventurous, lighthearted feel I adore in a Nintendo game
>likable, interesting cast of characters and enemies
>nice use of transformations and abilities

Here are some things I'm not so hot on with the game:
>enemies respawn in the most inconvenient locations and a bit too frequently for my taste
>the regular attack is hard to adjust to, and defeating certain enemies requires just the right timing
>running is good to make high jumps, but it makes it too easy to get hit by enemies

I'm not particularly far into the game, but so far, I'm liking it. WayForward has always been a thumbs-up in my book, so hopefully the rest of the game will be pretty good.

Wayforward is a great company.
I was playing Contra 4 tonight. Such a fun game, but I suck at it.

Also, the day/night mechanic is really nice, considering most 2D platformers don't really make use of it.

Do you own the sequel? They've also got another one coming out soon.

Haha really?... What would have been the reason?

it's still available through the 3DS

I'll be sure to check it out when I can. I just want to have money set aside for Ace Attorney 5.

I didn't think the ports of Space Harrier and After Burner were all that bad. Knuckles Chaotix is kind of interesting, same with Virtua Racing
