People who want RGB out of their Famicom but don't wanna mod the console. Might be doable on the NES since it can read from PPU from the cartridge slot as well, but would need to stick out of the slot far enough to give you a plug.

I never said anything about (((Putin))), dipshit fuckwit. FYI, I already know that many Ethnic Russians were unjustly killed in Donbass and Luhansk, but this military operation is not what Vlad and most of Russia's Military generals want the people of the Russian Federation to think. Its a game of playing both sides against the middle, overall, ditto with most of Silicon Valley's pulling out of Russia. How nice of you to actually think that (((Vladimir Putin))) actually cares for either the Russians or Ukrainians, regardless of the deliberate repressions to his critics that at times involves KILLING THEM whether it be by poison, or gunshots. Both He and (((Zelensky))) are leering Kike ratfinks, NEITHER of them are to be trusted in the long run.

the RGB adapter passes video out through itself, not using the internal video processing at all. it looks similar to this device which claims to let you play Genesis on the SNES with just an adapter, but looking closer you have to output video and audio through a port on the adapter, meaning it's doing all the work and only using the SNES for the controller ports and power. effectively, you're paying krikzz for a FPGA that is pretending to be an adapter. you might as well just buy an analogue nt or a mister.

RGB is an affront to god and his creations. NES was meant to be played on RF or composite. Trying to force some standard that was never intended for the platform is only meant for autists who are more interested in "the best" and don't actually play games. Seeing this destruction to the original vision is evidence enough that these mutants don't actually play games.

If the console intended to have RGB it would have had RGB output built in.

Nah.
Also, yes, there are cases in which Chinese, by they Mainland or Hong Kong or even Taiwanese, steal or copy in one way or another from another nation's blueprints or schematics. That being said, it still doesn't necessarily invalidate the whole idea of things being custom engineered.

NEETs who have never owned a business, or even so much as produced anything of value have no concept of how someone is supposed to make a living without NEETbux.
And furthermore these kinds of operations can't scale like giant Chinese mega factories and can't negotiate fabrication and component prices the same because they're not making 500,000 units at a time. The fact of the matter is that these devices just wouldn't exist if not for their price. Whether it's worth it to you is another question entirely, but their pricing isn't out of line for reasonable markup considering how much cost would have to be frontloaded into both design and fabrication.

I solder everything and have done tons of projects on most consoles. The NES RGB mod is probably the most difficult because you have to desolder the PPU. I have a Hakko 301-f, but most people don’t, and I wouldn’t recommend this project if you don’t.

The cart slot exposes pretty much everything as the CPU reads and writes data. It's possible to intercept all the stuff intended for the PPU, the char tables, and such and so you have all the information you need to recreate the display. It means you aren't using the Famicom's own PPU though, and so you are at risk of FPGA emulation bugs. But in a perfect world there's no reason why this is a bad idea, it's just in this imperfect world there may be some games that exhibit graphical issues.

>> No.9280142

>>9280137
That's pretty clever, so the PPU itself is being emulated on an FPGA.

>> No.9280152

>>9280142
Yes. The only thing that gives me pause is that the Famicom/NES PPU is quite unstable in that reads and writes at certain cycles do things you won't expect. Just like an emulator you have to implement loads of fixes for stuff that trips up real hardware in one way and was patched in the game in another. But Krikzz is usually pretty good at providing firmware updates as this stuff comes to light so it's not necessarily going to be like replacing your real vintage Famicom with a Famiclone.

The wiring diagram shows it pretty clearly just how deeply connected the cartridge port is (highlighted in yellow here).

With the cyclone IV chip in OP's adapter it could easily emulate the entire famicom on that chip itself but they choose to just use it for emulating the right half of the diagram (the PPU, possibly Vram?)

I disagree. If anything, more primitive 8-bit graphics benefit MORE from cleaner RGB signals. It matters less on something like N64 where everything is smudgy anyway. But on NES with RF/composite you get rainbow artefacts and dot crawl that causes things to shimmer as the screen scrolls. I'm very satisfied with the RGB mod I did to my NES. Looks much better.
