the cutscenes are genuinely annoying to watch, oscillating between total silliness and overly dramatic.
the voice acting is so fucking bad it hurts to listen to.
the boss ai is utterly retarded for some reason.
the environments look bland and sterile.
pretty much none of the transplanted mgs2 mechanics even really do anything, outside of letting you shoot cameras.
the only place where I might say TTS is an improvement is the sniper wolf battles because you don't have to go prone to use the PSG-1, but it's kinda countered out by wolf's AI being even more retarded than in the ps1 version so even on hard difficulties she often just runs back and forth in the wide open.

Twin Snakes is debatable. It's an interesting take on the original, but it kinda went full retard. I like what someone said of it years ago, that Twin Snakes is the events of MGS told by a random soldier who was there after he's had a few drinks with his buddies at the bar. Like, it's what people imagine the events of Shadow Moses to be, not what actually happened. So, in that sense, it's almost like Kojima poking fun at modern remakes of classic movies and how they take them too far, which is a subtlety genius if that was the intent, but I think it's was probably just an accident.

There is literally no reason to go back and replay the original GBA versions of OG1+2 outside of novelty.
>some of the best graphics PS2 SRW was capable of when the originals mostly looked "ok" for GBA compared to games like J
>reworked mechanics that were universally praised (twin system most notably)
>fixed characterization of Axel which people thought GBA OG2 did a disservice to
>more stages, characters, and event scenarios
>perfect carryover of data from one game to the next
>includes the first third of OGG just for the fuck of it.
There isn't a single thing in OGs I can think of that OG1/2 did better. It really is the perfect compilation remake. You don't even have an excuse of "well the GBA games are in english but the PS2 version isn't" anymore because the PS2 version now has a full english translation patch.

The RE4 HD port on PC with the RE4 HD Project is insane.
I also love the modern port of Rez, Rez Infinite. It added VR support, and it's a blast to play it that way. The game is unsurprisingly very well-suited for VR. The added content, Area X, isn't really incredible but is worth playing at least once.
This isn't exactly on-topic but while I'm talking about /vr/ in VR, if you have a PC VR headset you can also use Dolphin VR to play GameCube games in VR. Pretty fun to fuck around with for an hour or two in Star Fox Assault, Mario Kart or F-Zero GX.

FFS why does this shit confuse people so much? A remake is when you MAKE it AGAIN.

A remaster is likened to audio mastering, which is to say it is the same project but tuned to be more modern. These were called enhanced ports 20 years ago but remaster sounds cooler so that's the term used today.

Expanded versions may or may not be remasters – Persona 3 FES on the very same PS2 as the original version definitely isn't, whereas Halo Anniversary definitely is.

Reboots obviously have a different story

Link's Awakening DX is good but easier and (particularly with the slower menus and unskippable text) more tedious than the original Link's Awakening. The additions are not worth replacing the original game with DX, and the colors in the colorization don't always match the graphical style that LA was developed to look like (though they are good-looking, in general). I also own both.

VR Missions is probably the biggest loss in The Twin Snakes.
Otherwise, it's an inferior remake that takes away the soul of the original for added bombast and visual fidelity.
It's basically MGS1 given the Disney live action remake treatment.
It has most, if not all of the same flaws as Disney's live action remakes like Beauty and the Beast 2017, The Lion King 2019, Aladdin 2019, Mulan 2020, and Pinocchio 2022.

Alicesoft 2010 is probably the best remake I've ever played.
It includes two versions of Rance II, one of which maintains the entire original script with new art and music. Unless you're an extreme purist for Alicesoft juvenilia it's hard to argue against it being the best way to experience the game.
It also includes a remake of Mamanyonyo that adds in dozens of new characters. It doesn't contain all of the content of the original but it's still a fine game.
