Honestly, i've always preferred Super Mario World to Super Mario Bros. 3

For one thing, I feel like Mario World was a lot more accessible to players of all skill levels. There were checkpoints, you had an extra item you could use, and you could replay levels if you wanted to grind for more 1-ups. Not to mention there was a actually a save system. I also loved how if you got hit when you were on Yoshi, all that happened is that Yoshi ran away and it was awesome when you would get back on Yoshi in time. All of these things made the game possible for people not even good at video games to beat the game

Not to mention, I love how the worlds feel interconnected and there were various exits. The game encouraged exploration as there were various keys to get and pipes to enter. I remember being amazed when I discovered the Star World and the Special Zone. It felt like a massive game, more so than even Mario 3. Honestly, the game paved the way for more Mario exploration titles like Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine

Where as Mario 3 could feel a bit too hard at times (Then again, most NES games were a bit too hard for the casual gamer), Super Mario World managed to be a game that while not a cakewalk by any means, was still something that people of all skill levels could beat

Mario is basically over powered for the level design in Mario World. That's why there's room for infinite skill ceiling ROM hacks.

No idea why you would feel the need to confess this. It's pretty much universally agreed upon that SMW is superior to SMB3

Yeah but the ones in SMB3 are epic. Like that one in the cloud world where you're in the sky and have to jump on the clouds, or the airship levels. The battlefield levels in world 8 with the tanks. What the fuck even was that? It styles on SMW and I have a ton of nostalgia for SMW.

>>9234760
Those battlefield levels are awesome. You really feel like you're behind enemy lines on a one-man mission assaulting the boss-man on his own turf. Crazy shit. Those guys go through so many munitions trying to stop you, but ain't got nothing on the italian stallion.

World is better than 3.

>Has too many auto scrollers
>Too many gimmick levels
>Levels are extremely short
>Cant save
>Boss battles stink
>Game is ugly
3 does nothing better than world except for power ups. Boss Battles, level design, music, controls, and art style are better in World

>Be me, 7 years old or something
>Love Super Mario Bros 3, one of my favorite games, play it all the time on my brothers hand-me-down NES
>Born in '91 so by this time the N64 is out
>One day in a bookstore I happen upon a Mario Mania equivalent in my cunt - Basically the Super Mario World guide from Mario Mania translated into my language
>I've never heard of Super Mario World nor the SNES at this point
>Beg my mom to buy this book, she gets me it
>I'm absolutely glued to this book, just go over every detail and artwork in it, studying the maps, etc
>Literally imagine finding out your favorite game has a sequel on a console you didn't even know existed
>Read about Yoshi, Switch Palaces, the big bowser fight at the end in the clown car
>My hype is astronomical, I NEED to play this game
>Problem is its 98', parents aren't buying us a SNES when we have the "better" console (An N64) and nobody I knew has a SNES
>I keep thinking about Super Mario World, I can't get it out of my head
>Fast forward a few years
>Go to a friends house
>"Hey anon, check this out"
>He shows me SNES9X
>OhShit.jpg
>Run back home and install that shit
>Finally
>I'm gonna play SMW
>Its good, but years of anticipation and imagining how it would be the literal best game ever are completely unreasonable
>Every little detail that doesn't match up with my perceived "dream game" and ideas I've built up in my head over the years of what kind of game its supposed to be makes it seem lesser for it. (What the fuck? No mushroom houses? Why doesn't the red blocks give me fire flowers? Oh shit, I got the blue blocks! Wonder if it has a secret unique power up you could only get from this, like a hammer bros suit or a - Wait, there's fucking nothing? Why are all the levels the same theme? Why is the jumping and going down pipes SFX so muted and lacking the NES punch? Etc)

I know its not the fault of SMW but I will forever associate it with dissapointment

>I know its not the fault of SMW

No, it is, those are perfectly valid complains. SMW is way too monotonous and the level design is bland.

And to give credit where its due, while I prefer Super Mario Bros 3 (How couldn't I?) SMW is a terrific game - I've been able to be more objective with its qualites with age - But it taught me a valuable lesson about the dangers of hype at an early age.

Absolutely phenomenal for rom hacks as well, and honestly I enjoy it more for those than the vanilla game - It hits that spot of surprise and not really knowing whats coming which the original game never really could for me when I first played it.

Every once in a while, I'll still thumb over the guide and look over the level maps, and for a brief moment, I'm eight years old again, and the biggest concern in the world is wondering what the yoshi berries and dragon coins do in this wondrous game I wish so badly to play.

Part of why I think hacks fixes a lot of the issues I have with the game - Mechanically World controls really well and putting some more variety in its levels and themes goes a long way to make it better.

Playing Mario Maker made me appreciate the SMW aesthetic so much. There is something satisfying about it. SMB3 feels much 'rougher' in comparison, simply because it's 8 bit. 16 bit games have a smoothness 8 bit games do not have.

The solution: never get hyped for anything. Unironically. You have un-met desires in gaming and it's unlikely that any developer will meet it unless they meet your mind. Wait. See gameplay videos, then make your decision if something is worth your time.

A Whistling Chuck enemy may whistle either for the caped flying Super Koopa enemies (when on land) or for Rip Van Fish enemies (when underwater). If the Whistling Chuck is struck with a Grab Block on the same frame it would start whistling while underwater, a glitch occurs whereby the wrong function activates and it whistles for Super Koopas despite not being supposed to. As underwater levels do not have the sprites for Super Koopas in their graphics banks (due to them not normally needing to be used in that environment), the Super Koopas that appear have highly glitched graphics, appearing as partially-drawn fish enemies with “Z”s in front of them, as seen in the footage. When Mario stomps them, they do briefly turn into the dead Koopa sprite, which is present in that tileset, so their true nature becomes visible.

If Mario dismounts Yoshi underneath this moving yellow wall in Donut Plains 2, Yoshi will be absorbed into the wall and rapidly ascend offscreen. He will not come back down.
