What are some of the must-play games in this series? I once played the online Bomberman game and the NES entry, but that was about it.

94 (pce) and saturn have great single player campaigns

94 was also one of the last pce hucards and has some of the best visuals on the console. not a lot of AAA quality games on pce

I haven’t played that many but I can vouch for Super Bomberman 1 & 2, Mega Bomberman, and Bomberman 64 being excellent games

Atomic Bomberman is one that I literally never see mentioned but is the one I have played the most. It was a PC release that runs extremely fast, has a map editor included and a huge variety of settings you can swap around. I guess you could compare it to Unreal Tournament or Quake III compared to other games in the series, in that there was no "single player" element. Only skirmish matches against bots but those were still pretty good.

Also has a shitload of voice samples from Billy West and Charlie Addler. It is now abandonware so you can just download it, though it can be kind of a pain to get up and running on W10.

I agree with these choices, and I would also add the GB trilogy and the Jetters GBA game (which is essentially a sequel gameplay-wise to Tournament).
The Max games are solid as well.

If you liked TSA, it's kind of like that, a 3D action-adventure, but with more outdoor exploration instead of the zelda-like dungeons. Sadly there are a lot of mini games that are required to beat and I think that undermines the game a bit. They bring the exploring to a halt and make the whole experience feel silly. I would rank it below TSA, but if you played that game and liked it and want more like it, you might like it. If you haven't played either game but think a 3D action-adventure Bomberman game sounds cool, play TSA instead.
>Jetters
All mini games. Not my style.

The OG is one of the best. Classic Bomberman gameplay but without overdoing the gimmicky powerups. OST is the foundation for entire series and its very good.
