How many are you are in fascinated in Japanese PC games? As in, MSX, PC-98, FM-Towns and early Windows titles.

>> No.921365

I've always wanted to dabble in these. However, I've heard that the majority of software is porn related and/or extremely un-userfriendly if you don't know Japanese. Nonetheless I've always wanted a Sharp X1 Twin.

I'd like to get into these, but it's a bit intimidating and the language barrier might be a problem. All I've ever really played is the PC-98 Touhou games.

Same. All I really know is Snatcher, Falcom, and Koei's strategy games.

All fun to note that Dungeon Master 2 was first released on the PC-98

I really enjoy the visual style for a lot of the MSX PC-98 and X6800 titles, nothing beats that 80s/early 90s art for me.
I'm not super well versed in the FM-Towns outside of it's sound processor.

There definitely is a a good deal of adult software (That's going to happen when anyone can write software for it), as well as software that requires being able to read Japanese, but they have some amazing and most of the time almost perfect ports of arcade games in that sea of smut and kanji.

The funny thing is as interested in these early Japanese pc systems, I can't stand reading up about the Commadore and the Amiga

>> No.922340

Why? Is the Amiga inferior compared to the PC-98?

>> No.922381

>>922340
The FM Towns is superior to the Amiga and VGA PC.
PC-98 was more of a budget machine but had a high resolution which was used for great art.

I really want to play more games on the PC-98 then just the Touhou games, but for the life of me I can't find a site with roms that aren't in XBAWX HUEG packs in a sea of eroge. I mean, I wouldn't mind getting some eroge too, but really. Also, I love the OPNA chip.

Arle (the girl in the blue armor in the third panel) is going up and up a tower to pass her kindergarten class. She goes pretty far, a monster gives her a illusion that her classmates are congratulating her, so that she would get close and he would kill her. That scene is actually removed in other versions of the same game such as the Game Gear and Genesis version.

I was going to post a huge collection of PC98 games I found on some Chinese website but it appears to be down. I'll try uploading it somewhere but it's like 6gb. Maybe a torrent?

Anyway, I wouldn't say I'm fascinated but I like to run a few games occasionally. I also happen to know some Japanese but the language in a lot of the games can get difficult and the kanji aren't always easy to read. I should stick to school games for now I guess.

Startet building a X68000 and FM Towns eroge collection last year,

so far I have a lots of quality games but still lack a working X68000 and FM Towns.

was thinking about getting a Marty - but they're so fucking expensive outside of Japan and often the disk rubber belt is not working probably.

getting a refurbished X68000 and Fm Towns stationary PC would probably be the best.
Oh and I'd love to get a UX-20!

Some guy in one of the pixel art threads said that you can navigate the menus well enough if you can just read katakana because they're all loanwords, and recommended this:

So unless you're playing something story heavy, you can try to brute force it.

Order several stuff from the same place at once and have it shipped either via SAL or ship.

single games can be ordered over EMS - you'll pay about 20-30$ per game including shipping that way.

of course the best option is to actually know someone over there who can ship.

I also have luck since I mostly collect eroges which are unplayable for non-japanese people so they dont get very expensive compared to stuf like Mahou Daisakusen.
