Certainly nice to have a headphone jack, but it's converted from digital, not pass through. This isn't a bad thing. They use a decent chipset for that, as opposed to the garbage you'll find in chinkshit adapters.

I used to have a dedicated device for this during high-school emulating everything from SNES, PSX to PC98, DOS and the Wii.
Now I just can't go back.
Matte screen tablets don't exist and additional screen protectors seem to be all universally terrible.
Most Phone touchscreens are made without pressure sensitivity or with a very imprecise one at best, so I had to bring my controller along.
I don't play portable games on portable hardware anymore, maybe because my favorite way to experience GBA titles was by connecting the device to the Gamecube.
And even if I wanted to have a cheap portable device nowadays, then I'd rather buy a mini laptop.

>> No.9211020

I have an 8bitdo clip and I tried the emulation thing on a phone and it's really a shitty experience. It's heavy on top, really inconvenient and with a small USB-C to USB-C otg cable it still has some latency on pretty much anything I throw at it. This is the cheapskate experience, and I say that when my phone can do shit like GameCube just fine.

>> No.9211028

>>9211020
Stop using near-weightless 8shitdo controllers as your base. Get a good mount for an Xbone or Sony controller and go to town.

>> No.9211038

>>9211028
To have something even heavier? What's comfortable about that? The only thing that could justify that is the screen size and frankly there's not a whole lot on my 6.7" screen (also considering a good half of it goes completely unused for many platforms anyways). Hell I thought one of the advantages was to use any controller you like on this sort of setup. I don't like the DS4 or the Xbone controllers for retro, I'd rather use my 8bitdo like I did for the last 2 years on pc.

Have any of you retired from hardcore gaming? It just doesn’t feel like I have the time of yesterday. I still want to game and enjoy gaming but take it less seriously than I used to. What do you guys think?

It does break my heart in ways that there are some amazing games I may never get the chance to play because of this, but overall I’d say I’ve already played the vast majority of games I’d really enjoy anyways.

>> No.9211228

>controller
Bloat. Just use on-screen controls. You shouldn't be playing games that need a lot of dexterity in public anyway, and on-screen controls are sufficient for menu based games. Just make sure no part of the controller overlay is covering the game. That is if you want to retain the respect of any onlookers.

I do it no problem. I was buying emulation handhelds for over a decade and a half. I gave up chasing that dragon and just get a phone that beats all the emulator handhelds, every couple years. I also use the very same controller for non retro gaming. All and all it works fine.

You're not gonna look cool playing anything on public. It's true though that the whole gamepad + phone setup still looks hilarious while at least you can sort of conceal the fact if you only use the phone, and a small portable isn't that noticeable. I wonder if any of these chinkheld companies considered making a portrait mode handheld that looks just like a smartphone from the back.

LOL, no one looks cool hunched over a portable game or tapping on a phone. It is simply a practical matter. The average midlevel phone has superior capasity to any purpose built portable. Not to mention if you want to spend a little more you can do a whole lot better.

I tried this for a whole and I hated it but at least it's way better than the hundreds of chink handhelds I see shilled.

Also a 3DS is amazing to have laying around because it plays every former Nintendo handheld natively and is easy as hell to homebrew and install pirated games on. I don't think its a good emulation device at all but it's great at what it does.

The one with issues is you ignoring the fact you have to make sure you're firmly gripping that shit because it's prone to fall due to it being top heavy. It would handle a lot better despite being heavier if the weight was evenly distributed but I'm certain you did not try this shit for long.

Pretty much any phone can do any 8, 16 or 32-bit console. Most recent phones can do up to GameCube / Wii. For example I am playing a super-smooth GC Phantasy Star Online on my £200 Poco via Dolphin Emulator.
XBox is hard to emulate (but why bother - the console was only ever a shovelware repository, with no worthwhile exclusives) and PlayStation 2 isn't perfect yet but getting better.
