Why are his levels so bad?

in doom 2 it's because he was given 15 minutes to make two thirds of the game
in quake it's because you're too much of a pleb to appreciate them

might as well say "why was DOOM bad" if you think his levels suck since he made the vast majority of levels for both games. anyway, they weren't bad. he created some of the best and most memorable levels in DOOM 1, e.g. Command Center and Tower of Babel, and he made the most iconic DOOM level ever with Entryway for D2. yeah some of his city levels in D2 are garbage but oh well, nobody's perfect. compare to Romero who only made like 9 maps in D1 and almost all of them were the early game baby mode shit like hangar and toxin refinery which are shallow and boring as fuck and have tons of pointless, time wasting features like the two platforms in phobos lab that rise out of the nukage and you have to sit and slowly wait for them to raise so you can hit the switches and then repeat twice more if you want the armor/bullets, because nothing says doom like waiting on an elevator 4 times in one room. sandy also made some of the best quake levels. i'll never understand the hate this dude receives but i can only assume it results from needing to git gud.
