this game never got a fair shake, i never see anyone mention it anymore when discussing the franchise. the original developer for the game actually released an update to the sega genesis version which adds so much cool stuff to it in the form of a patch to the rom.

I don't get what's so great about the Director's Cut other than the debug mode. The Saturn version has wayyy better graphics and the soundtrack is also better. Jun Senoue resents wasting his talent on the Mega Drive version of the game anyway, so much that he decided to reuse it on Sonic Adventure.

It's a solid game, it's just that isometric platformers can be hard to do since it makes jumping onto platforms very hard. Hence why you only see scant amounts of platforming in the early zones with little to no punishment in messing up. Then there is more platforming in later zones and chances are you'll be spending most of your time in those sections compared to others.

The game is better played with a joystick than a D-pad and rolling into enemies is just significantly more realistic than aiming and jumping onto an enemy.

Genesis version has way better music.

What are you talking about, the saturn versions sounds like a b-movie soundtrack

I like this game. I recently picked up some parts to make a repro of the director's cut because I play it often enough that I don't feel like scrolling through a list of roms just to play it.

It's pretty admirable thing to just take a laundry list of things people had issues with, and then make a hack to fix them. f you bought or ended up getting the game through a bundle, via Steam. The Directors Cut can be installed as a mod via Steam workbench, I do like Sonic 3D Blast as a game. Not my favourite Sonic game. but it is like Sonic meets Marble Madness meets flicky. Graphically, it is really impressive. I think people asked him to do a directors cut for Sonic R if possible.

I never liked how slow Sonic is, I am grateful for the DC version.
It never was a bad game anyway.

Took me a while to get into it. But now it's a game I do replay regularly. It's an amazing little technical marvel.

I just don’t really like isometric platformers/games. This is actually one of the better ones, but its not my thing. Snake Rattle and Roll is another decent one on NES. Marble Madness is the only isometric game I really like. Theres some gameboy advance one that are ok, but nothing really stands out. Even Qbert is t my thing. It can be bearable for slower paced games like RPGs, that kirby golf snes game or Dark Savior/landstalker but really Id rather play straight 2d, polygonal or even sprite scalers.

I played this recently on the mega collection, its a fun game and looks great for its time. I game overed at what I think was the last level so I’m going to give it another go soon when I have free time

It's not like it's *never* talked about, just not talked about much.
It's just so different to the typical Sonic game of the time, changing from a high speed 2D platformer to a 3D isometric exploration/collecting game. And shit, some of those zones could be real mazes.

If you don't know already, don't forget to collect all the emeralds because it unlocks the true final boss fight. Thankfully the special stages are on the easier side of the Genesis games.

>more concerned about """""quality""""" than composition
What an absolute shit take. Genesis was the superior soundtrack in every way. Saturn version was some cheap garage band tier trash music.
