can anyone recommend controllers with a layout like the dualshock 2/3/4/etc with trigger buttons in the bottom/handles so you can actually use the shoulder buttons and trigger buttons at the same time? i'd love to have that for playing armored core games in emulator

Might as well get a F710 at that point.

Its quality is kinda meh, BUT it has a DS layout and a convenient Dinput/Xinput switch.

Just use both your index and middle fingers if you're ever in a situation where you need to press both?? I don't think I've ever been in a situation where I've needed to press L1+L2 or R1+R2

You might like one of these if you have a DualShock 4. I have one and I like it a lot. The back button attachment doesn't add extra inputs, but you can map them to any other button on the controller. It's really easy to use, too; you just use the little screen on it to map the extra buttons.

This. It's how I played MGS2 and 3.

This. It's pretty good. Not the most comfortable but not that bad if you get used to it. And this is the cheapest solution if you have DS4.

There was this Pelican wireless controller. It placed the L2/R2 buttons lower so you could comfortably hit them. But it's wireless and for tiny baby hands.

If you have money to burn go see what sort of options Scuf offer.
