I just finished playing an hour of Blood 2. No doubt the first one is a better game, but I still just love the vibe of this one. The modern, slightly cyberpunk setting and overall chunkiness reminds me of Deus Ex, and I like the idea of the cult from the original surviving into modern times with good publicity. There's also a vein of humor running through the whole thing, almost a Postal 2 vibe at times. By most people's standards, it's not a good game, but I genuinely enjoy it a lot.

I just tested Babel Monsters with that mod and it's pretty good, but I'd recommend putting the fear slider to about 0.7 since if you don't the level of overkill that even basic weapons inflict can make enemies break too fast.
I kinda went in expecting to not like the Halo thing, but it's not bad, clearly fairly high-effort.

guys, I don't know if I'm going insane but I remember the knights making a very distinctive metallic CLINK CLINK CLINK when you shot at them that I'm not hearing anymore, I tried quakespasm, vkquake and iron wail with the steam's id1 folder
I thought it was some n64 quirk but I emulated the rom with the same results, no metallic clink when shooting them

This happened when I started to charge a shot immediately after raising the gun from a sprint/crouch slide.

Basically along the lines of GMOTA or Demonsteel or that one difficulty mode for Hedon, but I also do not mind if there's something like that for Quake, Duke 3d or Shadow Warrior(can't really see it working for Blood).

Really though that melee only mode in Hedon doesn't look too good, though I'm not fond with how combat is handled in the mod version, so my opinion is biased.

To be fair that's an issue I have with Hedon for more than just the melee. One of the biggest gripes I have with that game is that it has a mostly satisfying shotgun to use but everything about it jerks the camera like someone's trying to snap your neck. It's also a big reason I'm not a big fan of Brutal Doom or any wad that constantly jerks the camera around like that.

The worse offenders I see of that is when your vision zooms in and out while you fire weapons, like what the fuck is that even doing to the character as you fire? Are their eyes bulging in and out of their fucking sockets? On top of this the weapon animations are usually blurred to shit so you can tell what the fuck is going on.
At this point now I'm just bitching about the new dumb punks in the mod scene bringing 3D animation practices into 2D first person games.

I find a good way to deal with frag accumulation is to just carry a chainsaw and wreck corpses that drops ammo in some secluded room. Even better if its an arach as you can get a lot of powercells out of just one of those.

I replayed Valiant last week and having to gib a half dozen of these lardasses in every other fight burned me out on manc heavy maps for a while. Hard disagree here. Making 3D levels does not take more talent than making 2D levels, just another set of skills. And there was at least one anon who consciously chose to make maps for Doom because he wanted no room-over-room.
I personally have contributed to both 2D and 3D projects and I find making levels in 3D vastly easier than making levels in 2D.
And everyone and their grandma knows how to operate UDB whereas having to learn a new mapping tool for a new project already takes time and then you won't be as proficient as you are with your 2D tool you already know inside out.
And if it weren't for Trenchbroom, I would have never touched any 3D mapping in the first place because fuck Gtk Radiant, I could never get into it.

However, a problem I do indeed see already within Doom mappeing here is that lots of people don't seem to like getting out of their Boom comfort zone.

The MALICE project would likely have similar modifiers to Violent Rumble and potentially some optional CSQC (magazine ammo count, a couple HUD variants, etc.). A new start map would be required, and some gameplay additions could be made from the decompiled progs (i.e. skill 3 being actual Nightmare and not some weird insta-kill mode). I'd personally like to do a small episode of continuous maps for this one, but I'm not sure how doable that is in 3 months, and I'd leave that up to you guys anyway. No room for an extended deadline... would kinda miss the point.

Violent Rumble 2 would be... whatever you want to make of it, really. I've been painfully slowly working on progs stuff and expanding the secret level. If you made a map for the first release with a rune, you can surrender it to another mapper or transfer it to a new map of your own if you wish. I've got some ideas for new powerups and modifiers that might be fun.
Also, I've had the idea of using the bedroom in the secret level as a hub for some thematic mini-maps accessible via some of the posters on the wall - either existing ones or whatever is requested. These maps would allow the player unlock the DOE runes or other bonuses for the final fight, which will be harder otherwise. The Rekkr poster is already reserved.

For whichever is picked I'll run a survey on what direction you guys want to take things.

Just a heads-up, I found out right now that Babel doesn't work with doom_complete.pk3 from wadsmoosh on newer versions of GZDoom (4.7+ at the very least). It's because the IWAD filter doesn't engage properly, so I'm trying to figure out if I can remedy it. In the meantime, if you really want to use it with doom_complete.pk3, try using an older version of GZDoom (4.4 seems to work fine). It will, however, allow you to use the SSG in Doom 1 levels, no way around that yet.

Okay actually this was pretty simple. I'll be updating the link I posted a few threads ago with a fix for it. Still get the SSG in doom 1 in doom_complete if you idfa, but there's no simple way to fix that without potentially breaking compat for custom maps with their own EXMX names that want the SSG. I'm also working on a few touchups to things I noticed, and maybe one or two balance changes (such as making it so that if you shoot a demon when it's mid-bite you can always stun it). We'll see.

I haven't looked *too* deep into MALICE's progs (in part because the decompiled QC files are a bit of a mess) but it will probably be easy enough to make a modifier that replaces the harsh health ramp up with something else. I could also just implement skill 3 and spread the health disparity across to it.

Peaceful Rest Valley. It's bricky and holds you by the balls for health and ammo, I found myself Tysoning quite a bit to conserve ammo, even before I got the Berserk pack, just because I was so low on ammo and so worried I wouldn't have enough for a really serious encounter if I didn't (and it felt pretty thrilling to punch out an Arch-Vile or two). I like the traps and ambushes, they're pretty mean, and I especially like the setup with the oldschool Plutonia teleporter pad.

It looks overall ok, though almost kind of barren for the wide and high ceiling corridors with little in terms of features. In a way this is a good look because it makes these large hallways feel lonely and unhomely, though at times this does end up making things look slightly bland.
I wouldn't say this is something which is in dire need of changing, but I would say that the level could benefit from adding some detail in some locations, just here and there (stuff like ceiling support beams, or maybe some indents up in a wall to place marble faces on, but you could do whatever you wanted which you think would work).

I think the things which would need changing is with the doors, frequently a lack of door tracks and clashing upper flats. Pic related for examples, simple changes.
Death Exit is improperly set up, see PROTTEST.wad in Mega for how to replicate. Also there ought to be a hidden normal exit somewhere in the level if a Death Exit is used, perhaps you could hide it in the rocket room, and it would need to be opened up from somewhere late in the level.

The one thing which I think is just odd is the Pinkies in the pit around the exit area, because you can't get there without being sent flying by that Arch-Vile, and there isn't anything down there to get. In one way this could be used for a missable secret, but currently it's just kills which are awkward and missable.
Some rock props on the cliffs around here could look nice.

Graf is a big gay for not letting me set pain chances properly with ZScript, but my autistic programming workaround powers outrank his utter homosexuality so now you can counter-punch/counter-hit demons in the dev version of Babel with 100% guarantee of causing a flinch if you do it right, skill notwithstanding. Note that this only works on their bite frames, nothing else.
I'm not entirely sure I'm going to put this in, since it does seem a bit busted, but if I do it'll be with a nerf to the chainsaw on Demons specifically. It'll still lock Spectres in place and counters will work on Spectres, but I'll nerf its overall chance on Demons since the only reason it was so high to begin with was to avoid instakilling the player when they got locked into a "chainsaw the demons lol" scenario in a map, which this also fixes and fixes better than the old fix.

Looks great. I feel this map makes me a little better at punching.
The exit teleporter is still not quite right though, the inner linedefs should have the teleport action, also you should use the sky transfer function to make the death sector bright red with 0 light.
The Arch-Vile at the end feels like he'd almost be easily missed with the delay in him teleporting in.

Also this isn't necessarily something that you need to fix on your end if you don't know how, but the MIDI fades out before it begins again, leaving this brief awkward silence, if anyone here can address that, that would be great.

Alkaline has the mutants from Quake 2 available as an enemy, I've encountered them in some of the maps.

Afaik it's not known and hasn't been said. The rumor is they're digitized photos, but the winkles don't match up with any picture I've seen of Mussolini. The other human corpses are supposedly gi joes broken and posed, and they match stylistically with the upside down hanged dude. And I had a GI Joe from the era and it does look plausible. But again I don't think it's ever been said explicitly.

After beating Ultimate Doom once and then Doom II twice, I hopped into Ancient Aliens as my first megawad playthrough. It's a lot harder than Doom II but I love how fast and flowy it is so far, there's a lot less breaks in the action and all the maps so far have neat concepts, so far Bad Medicine Men is the standout (I'm on Map 7 right now). Ammo is also a fucking way huger concern than the original games, I always run out and it seems like the Berserk pack is made greater use of.

This rumor is relatively new. It's also not true, because the details doesn't match much to any known photo. The one detail which does kind of match is how the pants sag, but that's also basically how pants sag on anyone who's hung up upside down like that, that's gravity.
The sort of photorealistic lighting/sheen to that set of sprites suggests that it could be something they digitized, and there's some some mention in internal material which describes them as GIs. Possibly this could be short-hand for G.I Joe's, and thus these are action figures, which would line up with the B-movie style graphics sourcing they did, as well as their use of toys for props.

That's not to say that's hard evidence those are action figures, but I feel that it's a better piece of evidence than "It kind of looks vaguely the same as this photo."

ED is about documenting drama, and that stuff is drama. I think much of the drama is people coming up with more reasons to hate Mark though, because he was really an obnoxious and unapologetic asshole back then and got on lots of people's nerves.

That's really old, and not really something which is considered too spicy around these parts.
The short is that the Plasma Rifle has a special damage type that makes a special death sequence for monsters when killed with it, turning them into smoldering carbonized chunks, and in the code for the Plasma Rifle Mark left a //comment along the lines of "This will turn a white man into a nigger in seconds." or something to that effect. You can probably go find it if you dig up an old enough version of BD to see it for yourself.

Naturally, someone on ZDF (probably someone who isn't black) got extremely offended by that. Of Mark's shitty things though, Committing A Heckin' Racism isn't very significant next to being kind of a douche, like telling a suicidal dude how to kill himself. That last one IMO is the worst thing he did, potentially he intended to shock and make the guy think twice, or something like that (because he probably isn't a psychopath), but being a known edgy oaf, it's kind of hard for people to read it differently.
