Sup /vr/.

First time poster and i am wondering if you can help me.

I was a PS1 kid so never got an N64 so missed out growing up. Today i downloaded a emulator out of curiosity and i was hoping if you could guide me to some games i might like and i am going to be specific and ask if there was any turnbased RPG's worth a playthrough on the N64.

Thanks in advance!

there are almost none. that really sucks about the N64 library.

only ones I can think of is Ogre Battle 64, Aidyn Chronicles and Quest 64.

AC and Quest fucking suck for many reasons but see for yourself.

sometimes Hybrid Heaven from Konami is considered an RPG but only has a turnbased wrestling mode.

if you like turn-based RPGs, stay with PS1.

oh and Harvest Moon 64 is kinda an RPG as well as well. Shadowgate 64 if you like adventure with heavy WRPG-esque feeling and setting

other than that: Fushigi no dungeon. but I don't think it is translated yet.

What's even the reason for this anyways? Did all the RPG developers just flock to the PS1 because of disc space or something?

Yeah, pretty much. I guess it's the same reason why you find more SNES RPGs than Genesis RPGs.

not only that but also because the PS1 was easier to develop for and cheaper to produce for because discs.

another big reason is that Nintendo was supposed to be very restrictive in terms of third party games and that kinda put 3rd party devs and pubs off.

there is also a rumor that one of the former nintendo presidents was a dumb asshole who actively neglected and shat on the RPG genre saying it's only for neckbeards and fags who waste too much time. but that's something I read on /v/ long ago.

The N64 has some RPGs. It just doesn't have much in the way of turn-based ones. Whether this is a good or a bad thing depends on whether you think turn based RPGs are CANCER.

Flying Dragon is a fighting game with RPG elements.

It's not the same.

It has a grand total of four. Whatever else you might try to put under the RPG banner is an adventure game.

Always Hybrid Heaven. Possibly my favorite RPG on the N64 with Ogre Battle 64 trailing behind it.

Most of what people try to put under the adventure game banner are in fact RPGs.

Adventure game and RPG are very, very similar genres. To the point that there is sometimes no difference between them.
