Basically i found an old crt very close to my apartment and i was wondering what are the chances of it containing fleas
i live in southern california in a somewhat shitty ghetto area.

just put a flea and tick collar on it if youre worried

If the previous house was infested with them, I could imagine some fleas in a CRT. Most CRTs have passive cooling with open vents in the back and bugs flock to either warm or undisturbed location which a CRT can be both depending on how often it's used. The vents just act as a way in and out and the CRT is an easy shelter for bugs.

It all depends on how it was stored after the last person stopped using it, or how it was handled while that last owner used it.

Even if it had fleas they would just die off unless you have pets for them to live off of. Bed bugs are a much bigger concern.

didn't think of that, thanks

how do i prevent the bed bugs on the crt then?

If you're truly worried, you could try opening up the back but be seriously careful. Some CRTs have capacitors in them that can kill you if you touch the wrong part and they still have a charge. If you havent plugged in the CRT, then you should be fine if you found it on the back ally.

You can still open it up and just look inside regardless and that really easy to do. Just dont poke around unless you know the CRT hasnt been plugged in for a long time.

I would be more worried about roaches and God knows what sort of horrific disease hotpots might be brewing on the TV.

Not if the TV has a lot of fur.

spray some bug spray on it and leave it outside for a while.

Minimal
A CRT doesn’t have living conditions or food for them

Yeah OP roaches love CRTs. And roaches love big cities. Especially poor parts of big cities. If a CRT is infested is most likely gonna be roaches or, if in a garage, spiders.

Just put it inside a big plastic bag before taking it home. Close and seal it for a few days and.... done. You´ll see anything alive walking through the bag sooner or later and most things alive in there will die withouth sustenance anyways.

i would worry more about cockroaches

I suppose you could just dump some isopropyl alcohol inside it. That would clear up any infestation.

Pupae fleas can lay dormant for months at a time, at least in carpets. Like if a property is vacated for a few months, when a new tenant moves in some time later, all of a sudden the little fuckers become active.

>>9163613
dont even have to open it up just use one of those tiny cameras on a wire thing like how they check your asshole for cancer just snake it in through vent

by setting it and everywhere its been on fire

bedbugs can go over a year without feeding. their eggs can survive the coldest temperatures

>> No.9164536

Fleas don't live in metal boxes.
Also fleas can't survive in your home if you don't have a cat or dog

>> No.9164542

>>9163945
this, buy the big size clear plastic bags and keep it in there for a couple months. if you don't want to wait that long then monitor it in the bag for a few days and if you don't see anything you might be good. this will always be a risk with old electronics, especially stuff you find outside.

>> No.9164545

>>9164484
this is true but bed bugs also can't survive past a certain temperature point, so you could crank the heat in your apartment really high for an hour if you're super paranoid, it's still lower than what should damage a tv.

>> No.9164552

There is a general for this.
But regardless this shitposting thread about fleas was still allowed to continue.
