What should I know before getting a Saturn? I plan on getting a pseudo saturn kai with it so I can play Japanese and burned games. Right now I have Saturn Bomberman, Grandia, Policenauts, Sakura Wars and Sega Rally Championship.

Check if your Saturn can actually read discs. No use in going the Pseudo route if the laser is dead in your system. It should be fine enough to pop a music CD in there and let it play the full album without hiccups or rampant seeking noise, but if you can get a real Saturn game then grab the cheapest one that's a good, not fucked disc, and see if the Saturn plays through enough of the game fine enough.
You need to be especially careful because Saturn games all have a proprietary layer on the outer rim of the disc that acts as both a copyright protection and helps the Saturn determine what data to load next in-game. My copy of Sega Rally Championship runs fine, but my Virtua Fighter 2 has a lot of scratches (and a tiny hairline surface crack) on the outside. It'll boot up and I can play it fine, but Arcade is unplayable after the first stage, it'll try to load stage 2 only to be stuck and effectively crash.
After that though you're good to go. I have to warn you though, that buying from china/hong kong right now is really fucked due to covid and the war stuff going on, your order for a cart may even get cancelled. You may have to settle for a US seller if that's the case, but even though it'll cost a bit more I'd still say it pays for itself, especially given the prices of real copies from any region.

those still respected the system's copy protection, but allowed other region games to boot. Another word of advice, PAL games while considered undesirable, on Saturn games run at the system's refresh rate. So the 50hz Shinobi X will run at 60hz if booted on an NTSC saturn.

An American Saturn is 200 dollars and an ultimate all in one cart is like 60+. Then for the other controllers and such like light guns will vary in price. Probably talking about the pseudo kai saturn cart. It allows Saturn to bypass region locks and also anti piracy locks. So you can play imported and burned games on the Saturn.

Two guns again with box for one. Same two games as the bundle above but also the JP Version of House of The Dead included. It also costs 100 bucks though the shipping is not free this time costing about 17 bucks to take it to USA. Also make sure to add taxes.

>> No.9167008

>>9164108
Depends on the games and version. US versions are most expensive, European next and Japanese ones are cheapest.

Take a common game like Virtua FIghter 2 for example: US version 30 bucks, EU version 20 bucks, JP version 5 bucks.

Light guns also: US version 90 bucks, EU version 50-60 bucks, JP version 30-40 bucks.

I could go on more.

It's a boomer house cleanout, so I'm almost certain it's all US released stuff. Was told that they'd "think about it" for $200. If they'd kept the boxes I'd be all over it.

>> No.9167071

>>9167064
For 200 bucks it's a relatively good deal. American Saturns go for about 150 for ones with working disc drives these days. A third party Light gun like that is 40-60. I live in Europe so I do not know fully your Saturn game market. But I would wager they are at least worth over 100 bucks probably more if they had their boxes. Not sure how much they cost without them.

>> No.9167097

>>9167064
>>9167071
Actually way more than 100-150 bucks at least with boxes it seems. Here's at least from my searches from ebay.

Sonic 3d blast 90 bucks
Black fire 20 bucks
I can't see the next disc
Virtua cop 2 60 bucks (damn the prices have increased. I bougt VC 2 NA version here in Europe 2 years ago for 20 euros) However a sleeve not for resale version seems to be just 15 bucks.
Bug too 70 bucks
Cannot see next disc
Legend of Oasis: I see a disc only being sold for 60 bucks. 150 bucks for CIB
Daytona USA: 10 bucks for those sleeve not for resale versions. So similar price to a disc only version.
Cannot see the next disc again sorry I'm blind
NHL All Star Hockey: Disc plus manual one being sold right now for 10 bucks
Need For Speed: 40 bucks

Now that makes it 315 dollars in games. But remember unless I specifically said no case versions those prices were for CIB. And again I couldn't see 3 of those games.

But at least about 200 dollars in games (I guess that would be their rough disc only value), plus 150 bucks for console and controller plus 50 bucks light gun.

So I guess do you think it's worth it?

Ha, thanks for the quick breakdown.
Games you're missing
#1 - Wrestlemania $30 on price charting
#2 - High Velocity $13

I probably should have done the legwork myself, but I appreciate it. I don't really care about playing original games, so I'd very likely sell all of them. I just don't own a saturn

Buying physical Saturn games is for literal retards.

Spend $150 or $250 once on an ODE and have access to the entire console library, and then laugh at all the paypiggies who post their "epic hauls" consisting of an obscure RPG they spent more than their rent payment on.

Alternately, spend $50 on a PSK cart and another $10 on a stack of CDRs.

The Saturn subreddit is filled with autistic retards and the head moderator is a guy in a wheelchair who has no arms and wears diapers. I know you think this is satire, but it is 100% true.

I think price might be the only one. I think it's more expensive than fenrir or something. And off course you can forget to take advantage of the what 10 games that give better cutscenes if you have the VCD card.

Though I never understand why people get the fenrir if their disc drive works. Just get a pseudo kai and 50 stack of CD-R's for 10 bucks. In my opinion fenrir should only be installed if your Saturns disc drive is busted.

Fair comment, it's only a minor inconvenience to burn discs for what you really want to play and makes you more selective. I have a decent 100+ game collection of PAL/JP Saturn games, but having come back to it recently there are still many games to play that I'm not prepared to pay retard-tier prices for. I thought used game prices were excessive back in 2010, now it's just on another level.

30-40 is not that much to me, I'd rather spend that on a good game than 60 bucks on the latest triple-a overcooked shit or 50 bucks for a four year old Switch game. I know, when I first got into collecting games they were super cheap but they're still reasonable considering everything.
