I’d say average, because that’s what it looks like, but I haven’t seen an official source for her height. The 6‘3“ measurement everyone uses only comes from an English strategy guide of Super Metroid, and isn’t official. I seem to recall it being contradicted by another source too, but I don’t remember what. Either way, everyone just agreed she’s 6'3“ because “muh tall muscle woman”, even though she’s clearly not tall, and clearly not muscular in most/all official artwork (like OP’s image).

Personally I’d prefer it if she were a six-foot-tall muscle-lady. It’d make sense considering she’s a genetically altered super soldier and clearly very powerful, but that just doesn’t seem to be the case.

I always assumed that they meant the inside of her suit had a kind of biotech flesh that interacted with her body, but the X infection made it hard to distinguish where she started and the suit stopped, so they cut off the metal bits and prayed that was enough. Once she absorbed the SA-X, her suit could essentially grow itself back.

The number first appeared in the Metroid II instruction manual on Gameboy, and was on a page displaying Samus completely kitted out in her suit. When Samus is conscious, she can form on/off. When she is unconscious and LITERALLY BEING EATEN BY A SPACE PARASITE you get weird compromises.
Its like they are cutting her out of a car wreckage just so they can make her a Metroid, which for all intents and purposes making her scarred and disfigured. Not because they cut her flesh, but because they cut her cocoon and mange her DNA permanently.

Its like if you where in a accident, but the conditions where so good that you merely got artificial bones instead.

Yeah, it's not canon. Samus doesn't actually wear those clothes or look like that or do that thing with her hair. What is that city behind her? It's not a real city that exists in the Metroid universe. It's a non-canon city that they drew as a background for a non-canon Samus. They are just nice pictures to show you when you beat the game, which give you a sort of hypothetical idea of what Samus might look like, but it's not as if she actually looks that way.

I mean, look at pic related. Samus is in a bar, but that bar doesn't exist, and even if it did she wouldn't be dressed like that in a bar. It's just an illustration of Samus doing some space stuff, it's not meant to be canon.

I remember when the first couple of game where she wears heels came out and so many people flipped their fucking lids. Feminists were acting like the nineteenth amendment got overturned and talking about her like she'd come out as a facial abuse pornstar.
I personally never understood it. Samus lives in an era where genetic modification is so good that you can get surgery to become half-Chozo, and live, and still look like a normal person afterwards. There's every reason to think that most people in the Metroid universe are similarly beautiful.
I think the contrast of a hulking space marine death machine revenge-fueled murderfucker robot that turns out to be piloted by a glamorous latex model is really neat. It wasn't wildly unique even in its own time; stuff like Appleseed already existed, but it was the first time I'd ever been exposed to the idea and I bet that's true for a lot of people.

While I agree Samus is almost definitely tall, Other M couldn't keep her height straight from one scene to another. When her suit flashes on and off after Adam shoots her it doesn't dramatically alter her height, she doesn't drop two feet to the floor. But later, when she's out of her suit, she's about that much shorter than the marine guy, where she was his height in the suit.

It's a dumb game that contradicts everything, even itself.

Yeah, she's talking about her armor. The feds in Fusion cloning metroids being a niche group isn't stated though.

Another weird translation thing I came across is that in Japanese Adam tells Samus about the explosives packed in the station during the sector 3 meltdown. She remembers this near the end of the game when she decides to send the station crashing into SR388. Adam's line for this being absent in English removes the foreshadowing.
