You've only played 2 platformers?

>> No.9154229

>>9154227
It's not. But PlayStation didn't have anything better.

>> No.9154230

It's really good, worse than the sequels, but the level design is better than most 90's platformers, it's on the same level as sonic and mario and it's amazing that everyone did it on the first try

for the first time ever a 3d game didn't feel like a compromise with slower more awkward controls, you could just breeze thru it if you mastered it. Something Mario 64 can't even lay claim to, mastery is an awkward juxtaposition of memorization, glitches and exploits as well as negligence of the camera. Crash does without this and opens 3D gameplay to fans of classic games.

>for the first time ever a 3d game didn't feel like a compromise
eh crash hides it's limitations decently well but there's still moments where you're aware you're playing a 3d game with a dpad.

it retains the snapiness 2d games always had that 3d games shrugged off at the time. do you not remember that? Basically all 3D games played slower, and I'm not talking about framerate. Animations had to be slower, characters had to move slower, and levels were progressed thru slower. This isn't a bad thing, but something even as a child I noticed. Crash didn't suffer from this.

Fun, hard, arcadey action that induced millions to 3d games. I think it was a success.

It has nice graphics. Look at how Mario 64 has zero details for comparison.

idk if its just me with this emulator but god damn, it does not feel snappy. it feels clunky as hell on dpad and i can feel the latency too.

crash is a low latency game and few 2D platformers give you such relentless challenges as Crash, it is built around you never stopping and that's the best thing about it

Collecting, jumping.
I really can't think about anything else.

Actually, even those two aspects of the game suck, so the only remaining redeeming factor is the game's humor and bright graphics. And the fact that PS1 owners now had their own mascotformer.
Nothing else.

Only annoying thing is how the save system works.

Crash 2 is the biggest quality jump for a sequel in the history of video games. It's so much better it's insane that people even give a shit about Crash 1

>> No.9154873

You'll have a massively worse time with Crash if you have many sources of input delay or things that make it less responsive. It's supposed to be a very precise platformer including timing. Someone emulating through aged jank like ePSXe, on an older LCD, using some Logitech™ super deadzone simulator experience gamepad that's wireless, with windows 10 underneath, could be in for the most frustrating experience of their lives. Meanwhile someone playing with delay reducers/real hardware, a low-latency screen or CRT and a wired gamepad would just get to play it and find it normal.

It's extremely good, top tier levels, gameplay and aesthetics. Sounds like a case of bad taste.

The Playstation had several times the amount of good platformers any Nintendo console ever did, and they were much better than the Nintendo platformers too.
Super Mario 64 is a joke compared to Crash Bandicoot 1 or anything on this list.

Old games look better than any modern ones. Realism is ugly.

Play on real hardware. Crash is definitely not clunky at all, just played through it again a couple months ago on a real PS1 and it it was great.
