what even is the point for collecting AES?
Did they have better versions of MVS games?

You missed the NGF-style big tymer ego circlejerk by 20+ years buddy, you're holding the bag for people who did this in the early 2000s. Congrats.
French?

Most of the time worse. At some point they started censoring the AES version by making the blood seen in MVS versions be just sweat in the AES versions.

I got a couple Neo Geo MVS games a few years back when the chinks on AliExpress found themselves a warehouse full of old imports to offload
Fun games but not really worth playing on original hardware since a lot of games have tons of slowdown and emulation quality on PCs is excellent these days. And even imported from China they're not exactly cheap.

It's almost always a 1:1 of a MVS cart aside from some extra circuitry that was moved out of the AES carts in order to stop arcade operators for buying the cheaper home carts and stuff it into a mvs via a converter (yes AES was cheaper than MVS at one point lmao).
The only exception I know of is Magician Lord which has legitimate differences from home/mvs that aren't simple BIOS toggles. The only reason you'd buy AES these days is because you are impressionable and fell for a collector who sold you on homecarts, dogtags and all that crap. $3000 for a Metal Slug 3 cart, with the abundance of cheap original MVS carts? Come on now.

Not to mention the home version mode of many games suck donkey dong and sometimes even censors games to have no blood, no bouncing Mai boobies. This is the reason why Unibios exists, people on home consoles still want to play with arcade operator dipsw and have all options on hand instead of a neutered experience.

>> No.9153593

Haven't started, it doesn't really interest me. It's cool for the people who are into that stuff but for me if I wanna play an arcade game it's enough to just start up MAME.

>> No.9153687

I fucking loved snk growing up but besides a neogeo pocket, i missed the ship and didn't get into mvs stuff till early 2010s when i got a wood grain mvs cabinet from my local game shop. I was going to get an aes there as well, but the owner ended up taking it from the store. I have a small collection, mostly mvs, but a couple cheaper aes as well (magician lord, blues journey, i think 8man may be the rarest i have). I only really grab mvs stuff if i see it for a fair price at conventions. Id still love to get a jap aes some day and the mvs converter for it and a unibios for my mvs. Also grabbed a couple cheap CD titles recently so id like to get that console some day.

my collection is the typical cheap $50 games+wh2.

Got an MVS 4 slot and about 11 carts. I stopped using it over a decade and a half ago.
Got a bunch of CRT's and i know how to use groovymame, it's infinitely superior.

Got most of what I want. Might pick up some of the cheaper titles where I can. Most of the big hitters left are too retardedly high for my blood like MS1, Neo Turf Masters, English MS2/4, Breakers, Ninja Master’s

Already got everything i want, but it was a mess, everything without boxes, so i took a day before the end of July to actually put every game inside it's box include all it's variations, everything is neat and clean now.

Seriously, the neo geo is the best case for emulation ever made. Not only has it been emulated almost perfectly for decades, the carts are so expensive you need to be a rube to fall for it. Even if you wanted to pay for those, odds are the game you want was ported to a different platform.

That's because a Neo Geo game that isn't either a fighting game or Metal Slug is pretty notable.

To be perfectly honest, SNES and N64 prices are starting to resemble Neo Geo nowadays. It's no longer the sole corner of insanity in the hobby.
