I love the game. My first preorder due to explosive hype, and the main reason I'm here on /vr/. I agree that the music is masterful and I think you'll like the story+gameplay enough to play though it a few times. While I'm not a fan of the Toriyama style of character art, it just work so well for the game. Take the time to enjoy the game to the fullest.

One of the few JRPGs I finished. Great game. A bit easier, but therefor has a good accessability and very good pacing.

It’s one of maybe 3-4 games I’ve played in my life that nails every single thing it sets out to do. Yes, it is aesthetically perfect.

After this, if you haven’t played it already, play Final Fantasy VI (original snes version). I consider VI the best 16 bit console RPG of all time, but i will openly admit the narrative isn’t as tight as CT. However, VI makes up for it with its battle system, which is much, much more customizable than CT.

Play them both and then report back here with your opinion on which is better.

I’m about 10 hours in my first play through, and man, it’s just so great. It’s just such a smooth ride, no grinding, really great combat system. The story is excellent and exciting and I have trouble putting the game down sometimes. I’ve only finished a handful of classic RPGs but I’m really enjoying the ride on this one

Exactly why I started this thread.
I'm busy af and wanted some opinions, especially after investing so much time in modern games that were complete letdowns.

Loving CT so far tho. It was impossible to find as a kid so I never got to play it.

Game looks pretty nice for a SNES game. Nothing special.

>muh story
Doesn't matter. Story/plot is mostly irrelevant when it comes to judging the writing of something.
The writing itself is good in CT because it's well paced, the characters are solid and the story isn't convoluted - a rarity for the genre.

There's a shitload of missable content in it that really makes the game shine. I'd recommend playing it blind your first time, then replaying it with a guide.

The music gets better when the world has a blueish tint to the overworld. I think it's coming up pretty quickly. I would put my controller down for a minute and just space out listening to that overworld music.

The only "that part" that I can think of is an optional area where something sad can happen if you aren't paying attention. You will forget the controls and not be able to stop it from happening

What these two said. You should probably kill yourself for making a thread before even fighting your first enemy. But after you're done killing yourself, I too would recommend playing it blind. I beat the game for the first time just a month ago and I wish someone had told me that even though the game has 14 endings, you're locked into only 3 of them on your first playthrough. So beat the game making the choice that YOU want to make, and then try for completion on your second playthrough

Yeah, the music is great. Having great music, great mechanics, a fair playtime that doesn't overstay its welcome, impressive visuals, and cute female characters typically are the kinds of games that I favor most.

>>9153940
My friend still has the game as I seen in recent pics. I lent out back then because it was an instant classic then, and he enjoyed it too. I just can't afford to travel across the country to see him to get it back. It is not the price of the game that I am interested in, but it is just simply one of my favorite JRPGs.

>> No.9155021

>> No.9155852

Lookin' good. Is that the Steam version?

>> No.9157438

Finishing it right now. Yes. I generally hate JRPGs and storygames. Chrono Trigger is both, yet I am still loving it. First of all the graphics are just beautiful. It was peak pixel art graphics in the 16 bit era. The story is pretty good. The combat is a lot better than most JRPGs. My one complaint is that the second half of the game just feels like one long string of bossfights. They are pretty easy as most of the game is pretty easy, but I wish it had more placed to explore and things to do like the first half of the game did.
