So Earthbound was finally released on the Virtual Console, will the cartridge prices finally go down now once and for all?

>> No.914261

My prediction is that people who want to play the game on their home consoles will download it, making the price dip. After a month or so, though, it'll be back up to where it was.

>> No.914423

No. Why should it?

The cartrifges are that valuable because they are more rare than others and the game has a huge following, some people just want to play on original hardware.
But it's not like the game has just now been made available if you do not have cartridge... If you just wanted to play the game you just could download the ROM and play it on an emulator years ago. No one wants a cartridge of the game because otherwise they could not play it...

>> No.914446

Not immediately, no.

>> No.914625

Why would a digital download effect the price of a physical copy?

>> No.914642

No. If people wanted to play it before they just emulated it. Roms already did the job of bringing down the price of carts.

>> No.915326

>>914423
The actual earthbound cartridge is not rare at all. The reason it's so expensive is due to the relatively high demand

THIS IS THE BEST
POSSIBLE
THING

>> No.915485

>>915326
Another major factor is the fact that it never saw a European release until the VC release as of today. A huge portion of people buying it were importing it.

>> No.915489

tfw never played Earthbound

would someone who doesn't really like RPGs enjoy it?.

>> No.915498

>>915489
Think of it as a simpler rpg, so yeah you might. I'd say it's worth a shot.
ignore thoughts of it being total shit or a godlike game, just play it and try to enjoy it

>> No.916950

Can I just say that that trailer is pretty cool?

No, it won't "dip", as in, go down to $30-$60. It will never be "reasonable".
Bottom line is, since 2012, an average copy of Earthbound hasn't sold for less than $140, that includes news/rumors of the VC/Eshop release. Right now, they're going for $150-$170, two months ago, $180-$200. I conceive its -possible- the game drops all the way to $120 depending on two things,
A)The success of the WiiU
B)Demand decreases because of those eshop purchases

...I just don't see that happening for 2 key reasons.
1)This isn't like MVC2 where people legitimately WANTED to play the game, frequently, and didn't care about a physical copy. MVC2's release -did- MASSIVE damage to MVC2's value on both the DC and PS2. But in comparison to Earthbound, a single player game...
2)Could already be had through emulation anyways. For Free. That's literally all the Wii-U eshop thing is doing. IF THEY RELEASE A PHYSICAL COPY for the 3DS or WiiU, only -then- will the sales of the original cartridge tank. The eshop version is just not enough.
Its just a rom for a SINGLE player game.

Look at Link to the Past.
Is there a virtual console version of that? Yep. Its prices have skyrocketed.
Super Metroid?
Same.

Bottom line is, combine the retro bubble with the above formula, you're going to be lucky to see Earthbound drop more than $20-$40 in the coming months. If anything, its entirely plausible it does the reverse just like the games above, and causes an INTEREST in retro gaming with further expands the bubble.

Just food for thought.

Nah.

The only item worth farming is the Sword of Kings.

Why the hell did they have to give Poo's only weapon in the whole game a 1/128 chance to drop?

would you like a game genie code to fix that?
i have some that makes an item drop everytime. ended up with twenty swords the first time i used it.

Each game is a self contained story...

But if you do choose to play it, find the hack of Mother 1 with the random encounters reduced because that shit gets ridiculous after a while.

Play Earthbound first. If you really like it, go play Mother. If you do, the fan-translated GBA version of Mother 1+2 is the way to go; the "Easy Ring" is available at the beginning if you find the game too tedious and it is generally better than playing the Earthbound Zero rom, being a translation of a complete game rather than a rip of a beta cart.

THIS. Even better, nintendo should make a 3 pack disk or Digital download of Mother 1, Earthbound, and Mother 3

That would be the best thing ever

Btw Why not on the 3DS?
