There's some truth to that. most of the english indie companies became huge and developed much bigger games, meanwhile in japan most of the companies died in the 90's and were cucked by the monopolies. From Software is still not independent despite their success

I like how ambitious most of these games were, even though most of these games are unplayable. European game design matured in the 32bit generation, they had already mastered everything about 3D.
