so i have a ps3, i was in love with darkstalkers when i was a teen and i want to play them again
which one should i go?

darkstalkers resurrection (ps3)
or
darkstalkers collection (ps2)

i'm aware the ps2 one has all the actual darkstalkers game, plus the character dee (which is exclusive here), but since darkstalkres 1 and 2 are basically the same game (darktalksers 2 being the canon and better one), and the other games are re-release of darkstalkers 3 with some changes here and there
and darkstalkers resurrection only has darkstalkers 2 and 3, but we know these 2 are the games that actually matter. don't know what difference darkstalkers 3 has in ps2 and ps3 tho (the main concern of this question/thread)...

IIRC the PS2 ports have inherent lag, probably Resurrection on PS3 is your best bet.
The only downside of it is that it doesn't support standard definition if you want to play on CRT.

They aren't you secondary subhuman. If you just care about single player get the ps2 collection. It has more games and it adds in the removed characters into vampire savior. Like anon said there is some lag but it's not major. It doesn't matter unless you're practicing for a tournament or some shit. Resurrection has better ports in terms of performance but not accuracy. There was slowdown in some stages in vampire hunter. Mainly sasquatch's stage cause there's a bunch of yeti's in the background but they fixed that. Resurrection has online play but you will absolutely not find anyone if you go online. The games are on both fightcade and that new capcom collection. I haven't played either in a long time and don't care about extras so do your research for that.

It's just a slideshow of artwork and some sprite animations from the intros of the original games.
I prefer the more crisp sprite-based intros of the originals over this.

Not complete, and cluttered with these white background art slides. The actual sprite-based originals just look crisper.
As for the tunes, this one sounds just like in the same music style as the intros for 2 and 3, but without the more crude synth sound of the originals... I dunno if I like it more. Still think vampire 1 has the best music overall, more somber and gothic and less techno.

I think what you mean is that the game doesn't support a 4:3 aspect ratio, because all games on a PS3 work on a CRT, you'll just have letterboxing.

An interesting fact that isn't relevant to much, but Mass Effect 3 on PS3 does support a 4:3 aspect ration, but on 360 it does not, forcing letterboxing. I just find that odd. Most games either support it or don't across all platforms. You do get occasional blocked features, though, such as no splitscreen multiplayer in Minecraft, but generally everything works well as long as you can read the text.

Guilty Gear XX AC Plus R is one of the dumbest in that it's 4:3 aspect only, but has side bars for 16:9 and then only supports 16:9, so when playing that on a CRT, you have black bars on all sides.

Assuming you have access to a PC that was made in the last decade you should really just play it for free on Fightcade. You can find matches with real people that way too.
I've played both the PS2 and PS3 versions and preferred the PS3 version. I even used to be able to get online matches with people in Vampire Savior regularly enough, but that was years ago.
If you want my two cents, I think the best console version of Vampire Savior is on Saturn.

As in, do proper combos instead of magic series chains, learn how to pushblock properly, the list goes on and every character has something challenging in that sense
Because of the degenerate offense in the game noobs pick it up, get their asshole shredded or trolled and don't come back. But if you ask for tips and grind 3000hrs you can get decent

There are a lot of newbies, intermediate players are actually the true rarity. The thing is combos in darkstalkers are tbe easiest part, litherally chain lights into mediums into sweep, but the game is fuck ridiculous fast too. The nice thing though is that whike fast combos are short so even if you get your ass kicked it never turns into "you can put the controller down and wait for the next match" like MvC.

don't sleep on the Saturn port of Vampire Hunter.
Sure, it's not arcade perfect like Vampire Savior is, it's missing a few frames of animation (though not many) and it has loading times, but it makes up by having perfect gameplay and being able to customize the game to have the Darkstalkers 1 color palettes and music (you can even mix them, like DS1 music and Hunter colors or viceversa), and you can actually get rid of the loading times by selecting a mode where the character screen select gets a simplified version, a great tradeoff.

The PS2 game does have input lag, but the PS3 does naturally drop inputs. I think the first two games are different, as the first one is more about Demitri the vampire, while the second game is more about the hunter Donovan. It is a similar difference between Vamipre Savior and Vampire Hunter 2. For "3", you may like the Resurrection, release since it features new higher resolution Udon character select portraits and higher resolution win quote fonts in addition to achievements and a couple of smoothing options.

Not quite. The games in the PS2 collection are all implemented as mods of Vampire Savior 2, and lazily at that, and thus have a different gameplay engine plus a bunch of small difference with the originals. It might not matter if you only care about the aesthetics but it's the reason it gets ignored, since it breaks balance in various ways
