Honestly I don't think they ever topped Gunstar and McDonald's. I don't hate Radiant Silvergun but it's far from the best shooter on the Saturn let alone adding in other consoles of the time, and Guardian Heroes is especially overrated. Mischief Makers is probably their best game of that generation.

Its definitely my favorite of their games with no debate. Then again I'm not a huge fan of them as a company though so its easy for me to choose GH with it being my most played game of theirs and one that I did honestly like a lot as a kid. The game is far from overrated though being so unknown as it is. If anything its still underrated despite having an XBL port. Its definitely not the best beat 'em up game although I used to see it that way for a long time. Still a solid game and if I ever get an Xbox again I'm making sure to purchase this game just to simply support its existence.

Treasure is like the Japanese Traveller's Tales. They get so hyper invested in what they can do that they tend to forget basic game design and things get too overstuffed. Gunstar Heroes has way too many wacky bosses and not enough thoughtful levels, so while it tricks you into thinking its better than Contra it's ultimately less fun to revisit. Just like Traveller's Tales they don't know how to pick just one gimmick and stuff too many in so they step all over each other. It makes the games awesome for a few minutes but exhausting once you sit and actually try to play through them.

Most of their games are great and feel "auteur-like", very original games that take elements from existing genres but add different twists to it, in a positive way. It feels very "games made by people who love video games", which obviously also attracts the criticism of pseuds like austroon and the /vg/ crowd who want to pose as "serious gamers who don't like things that vary from the norm", very midwit of them but hey, it's fun reading their seething.
Anyway, personally I think Sin and Punishment 1 is their best work overall. But I have a soft spot for Alien Soldier and Astro Boy as my favorites. Bangai O is also one of their greatest and most original games, if I had to pick only ONE game to represent Treasure, that'd be Bangai O.

I'm thinking it's Bangai O. I think all of their other games got re-released already, while the Bangai O series remains exclusive to their original platforms. I don't even think Xbox 360 emulation works? A lot of people haven't played that one.

Get real, Ninty boy. The Chadcast version's improvements, from the overall performance to the crisper and nicer visuals to the more pleasant on the ears music, easily make it the superiour game to play and actually enjoy. Thanks for beta testing though.

"more fun" is just subjective and in the long run, N64 version offers a deeper scoring system.
Both versions are pretty damn fun though, I'd recommend DC version first, and then if you like the game enough, play it on N64 for a harder challenge.
Graphics, music etc aren't bad on N64 and I also prefer Bangai-O's sprite itself on N64 than the sprite on the DC. Thankfully each version has its own personality so there's really no loser or "beta" version, if you like Bangai O, you should like both.
But of course, since you seethe about nintendo endlessly, you'll pretend to like a "trashure" game just to shit on nintendo and nothing else, epic, my lonely weekend olg guy.

It's a shit Wario game. No power-ups, transformations, or other wacky gameplay gimmicks; can be beaten blind in less than a couple hours tops; and even the boss fights (which is what Treasure typically excels at) were nothing really to write home about.

I'd say it's more that they just didn't have the wherewithal to handle it. 3D development is significantly more intensive than 2D, and even for an old school arcade/action dev Treasure was notoriously small.

As undercooked as they may be, the foundations of stuff like Wario World and Stretch Panic aren't all that shaky. They could've made something special with a suitable budget.

Enemy variety isn't one of its strong suits but the on-foot segments are chaotic enough to not feel rote while being just methodical enough where you can still properly learn and master them. >tediously fight the same half dozen or so enemies with lame attack patterns through mostly flat stages (also some crappy Megaman 2-style disappearing blocks to platform on in the 2nd stage)
>boss designs aren't much better designed than the regular enemies you encounter: Elmira's AI would keep getting stuck on the anvil that Plucky drops, hockey mask dude just drops statues on you and then chases them on repeat, etc.
>extremely shallow combat, just button mash until your super meter's full, then spam qcf+attack to do the shopping cart super, all while button-mashing R to summon the friend you picked

Even the soundtrack by Norio Hanzawa sucked, usually a Treasure game has great music if nothing else, but not here.
