Is there a more ergonomic alternative to this? It's not agreeing with my old man hands that much these days. Are the dogbone or max controllers any good? I'm also open to more modern designs

I believe that NES and SNES controllers use the same protocol, just with a differently shaped plug. You can make a very simple adapter to connect a SNES controller to NES and it will assign NES A and B buttons to SNES B and Y.

I personally don't consider it retro but you can try the mind-link function

I have dog bone controllers and I like them alot. Alternatively you could get an adaptater like the other anon suggested.

If you would like to go wireless, you could get one of the 8bitdo adapters and use it with the Switch Online SNES controllers.

The power grips work really well.

Holy shit is this really what the retro scene has come to? Zoomers are now complaining that the NES pad hurts their delicate zoomer hands? Consider for a moment that maybe hardcore retro gaming is not the hobby for you.

To add onto this, I think there's some cheap 3D printed grips you can get as well. It's too bad nobody will make one for PC Engine controllers, those things are awful to use...

sansui joycard sss is the best nes controller. Comfortable, 1/3rd thicker than the NES pad, rounded edges, good weight and superb buttons.

Your little girly hands can only take some much use squeezing things. You're gonna have to cut down on either the gooning or gaming.

I don't know why the NES controller is like that, with those sharp, pointy edges.
The original Famicom controller has round edges and because of that is a LOT more comfortable to hold.
