Tiny Toons on the NES is seldom mentioned, but it's one of the best platformers on the system. Looks great, sounds great, tight controls, difficulty that can bust your buns if you aren't taking things seriously. It was one of my most played NES games as a child and I think it has held up very well over the years.

Off topic but i dont want to kill a thread by making a new one- does anyone know where to get replacement plastic cases for Famicom disk games? Not the hard ones that go over the disk, but the softer plastic ones you put the disk and manual inside. Doesn't have to be official ones, just need a replacement of similar size.

The NES DQs are the best ones in the series, and they're better than their later ports/remakes which all make the games easier

>> No.9089407

>>9089390
Also the DS versions are absolutely soulless shit. For one thing, 4-5-6 all had their own distinct styles, then the remakes come along and puts everything in the same engine, re-using the same graphics for every game.... and on top of this said engine and graphics all come from DQ7 PSX.

It's garbage made from re-used assests by a b-team for a quick buck, the DS version of 6 for instance is a complete downgrade in every single way except perhaps having better menus. Not even the idle monster animations are an improvement as half of them look dumb as shit.
The only real advantage of the remake of 4 is being able to control your team in the final chapter, but you can do that in the original too with a gameshark code. The extra content is of dubious quality and not worth losing in every other department

The only DQ remake that I *might* recommend over the original is the PS2 version of 5

>> No.9091924

>>9091648
It's not unfinished and I don't see how that has anything to do in favour of the other versions of 2 considering they don't add anything and just make the game easier. Note that making the games easier was for any port/remake of DQ, not just 2, too.

>> No.9091951

>>9091924
he got it wrong. the game is finished but it's untested.

>> No.9091959

>>9091951
It's not untested. It was tested by devs and kids. Then casuals complained "waaaah the game is too hard!!" so the dev's excuse to that was to blame the kids testing the game saying "they already knew the game well so they didn't realize!"

Japanese players always complained "waaah the game is too hard!! make it easier on me please I just want to see the content without having to think!" at the time, same thing happened with Mother and Final Fantasy III final dungeon as well. This is part of why the genre went slowly to shit and why all the subsequent ports and remakes always make the games easier by reducing the encounter rate, changing stats of gear to make them powerful, or giving you new OP gear and other means to acquire powerful stuff.

The original version of DQ2 is the better balanced version. Yes, starting from the Path to Rhone the game gets hard, but it's the end of the game, there is nothing wrong with that, and if you're smart about it, draw your own map and don't hit air, you can do it at lvl 25 and read the final boss at lvl 30 which is what you should be at that point. The SNES version that part is just a cakewalk which is stupid and I've played many other Famicom jRPGs which were more difficult and had bigger difficulty spikes.

there's absolutely no thinking involved in DQ2 combat though. you're either high level or not and enemies in the final area can still cast defeat on the first turn and wipe your party no matter how fast your characters are. DQ3 at least seems to have implemented some kind of initiative mechanism to stop that from happening.

i'm also convinced that they didn't think the prince of cannock completely through as he stops getting equipment like 3 towns in and he gets good stats when you start to near his level cap (and you're likely going to beat the game before that)

Depends on the monsters, there are two ways to get them. Either spam the diagonal slash attack (most monsters that works), or jump and attack (for the few the former doesn't work as well). If you get get the rythm down, you'll be able to stunlock them to death. Try to find their weak points too, usually the head.

Sorry, I missed the part where "must play nes games" didn't include the best games on the system.

Enlighten me then, how else would I describe a "must play nes game"?

Or should nobody bother to list any games since no one's required to play anything?

I don't know, but I'm sure your doctor has a name for it.

The short answer is obviously "Gumshoe". But come on dude, it's pretty clear why somebody might consider some of the best NES games to be off the "must-play NES games" list. I love Double Dragon II NES as well, and I don't care at all about other versions of it and will probably never play them, but this is still clear enough to me: If another version of the game is similar but superior, then you might consider the NES version to be an unimportant curiosity that needn't be pursued by somebody who has access to all games from all consoles, as each of us in fact does.

I mean yeah we're all being jackasses by arguing about it like this, and you could accuse other anon of THAT, but your argument about "must-play NES game" implying "best NES game" is still wrong. For what little that's worth.

Contextually I took the request for "must play nes games" to be one of a narrower scope because if OP wanted to be play or be recommended games from other platforms he would have mentioned them . Not to mention, just because there's a better version of a game doesn't mean the other version isn't worth playing. That being said, I have never played another version of Double Dragon II, so maybe in the grand scheme of things the nes version is otherwise a waste of time.

Except you've been told already, Double Dragon II on NES plays completely differently from the other versions of Double Dragon II and most people would agree it's one of the best b-mups on the system alongside TMNT3 and Mighty Final Fight

From what you're saying it sounds like you haven't even played it, just shut the fuck up already

>Except you've been told already, the voices in my head are the real reality. It doesn't matter that OP asked for. I will just keeping saying it was something else because I'm literally psychotic.

You know what. I changed my mind. I now agree that what someone actually said doesn't matter. Only what I imagine they should have said. So what you actually said is irrelevant and what I quoted you as saying is reality.
Checkmate schizo.
