Yes, retro means, well, retro. PS1 (and especially PS2) give you a modern gaming experience sans Dark Souls. It really cannot be overstated how much the 5th gen changed everything, games aren't even the same things theoretically from this point on as they were on the NES.

>> No.9081175

needless to say but we need a /v2k/ board, ideally the 5th gen would be on there too but I know that's not going to happen

The thing is, though, the PS2 is fine. Almost anyone under 50 would've had one, and you can still get interesting discussion because its library was so wide.

Anyone clued in knows that the problem is including the GameCube. It attracts the absolute worst posters bar none for a whole mess of reasons.

Nah retro is like Colecovision and the Atari 8-bit computers

Yes but you are wrong for whinging about it instead of making threads about actual retro video games.

>the console I personally don't like is the problem
Maybe PS2 just isn't retro.

I think the anime girl in the OP is wrong (at least about the PS2) but I would post on both /vr/ and /v2k/ if I had to.

were the PS2 and DS new when Sanae went to gensokyo?

>> No.9081303

>>9081150
Definitely, in the 6th generation graphics started to become "unlimited" in the sense that you were not limited regards the scope of the game by graphical presentation, unlike in previous generations. Nothing 6th generation or later should be considered retro.

>tfw the ps3 and 360 still don’t feel old to me
>even the DS doesn’t feel natural being “retro”

It still weird me out, but man, if you look at the prices of DS games it most certainly is “retro” now.

DS came out right before I graduated, it feels wrong to even consider it might be retro.

>> No.9081502

Exclusively analogue out is retro, any option of digital out isn't, simple as.

I agree, but this would also technically make the PSP retro.

everything up to the release of demon's souls in 2009 is retro and theres nothing you can do about it

yep.

This is true. The Gamecube is kind of like the MLP:FiM of consoles

Yeah this is my feeling too. Games on PS2 are designed the same way as games on PS4, just with less technology available for graphics and processing. Whereas something on NES or SNES has an entirely different sensibility from modern games.
The average person nowadays could easily play Burnout or Timesplitters and still enjoy it similarly to a modern game albeit after they got used to the graphics. But they would have to rewire their brain to be able to play anything much older.

This is false.

youre putting too much faith in people kek, they wont even give them a chance because of the graphics let alone get used to them

"Good graphics" is codeword for "realistic and uninspired"

I still consider the DS new. PS2 is not old, but also not new. It feels like just yesterday I bought it.

Anyone who uses the word Retro here is a retard.

This board's quality has absolutely plummeted since the introduction of 6th gen discussion. It went from a slow, informative board with robust discussions on stuff like DOS games to the miserable dump you see before you. There's a thread up with a bunch of 30 plus year olds calling each other names over which shitty fucking quake port is better. Abysmal.

>> No.9082343

>>9081279
nah he's right the gamecube is a problem because the Wii is basically a gamecube with motion sensors plugged into it.

>> No.9082354

>>9082310
This. Apart from some subjective opinion on what is and is not "retro", the previous rules served to keep discussion which can take place on /v/ from drowning out /vr/ topics.
