ITT: Retro game series in which the hardest game is the best.

>> No.907161

>IV harder than 1,3 or 9

>> No.907170

>9
>Hard

Are you taking into account Super Hero mode or are you just parroting all the CoD baby "professional" reviewers that whined about the game?

>> No.907180

None of the Mega Man games are difficult, although I do not have the means to play 9, so I can't comment on that one.

I think 4 is pretty fun. What exactly makes it difficult? I mean you can slide AND charge. Plenty of E-tanks around.

>> No.907186

>>907158
10 is the hardest

>> No.907204

The game series arn't hard until some of the later willey stages.

Megaman has a lot of compared to most other NES heroes and enemies drop it in huge amounts. Its not uncommon to be 1 shot away from dying than managing to heal up to full from just killing a few enemies.

Using special weapons turns the boss encounter into a joke. Many of the bossses die so quickly when hit with the right weapon you can trade blow with them and out dps them.

Most of the games also had special weapons that could turn the non-boss sections into easy modes. Like some sort of full-screen attack, time-stopper, or something that just did way too much damage.

>> No.907223

From most to least difficult, I would say:
2,4,1,5,6,3

Most fun?
3,4,2,6,1,5

My overall ranking:
3,4,2,6,1,5

>> No.907238

>>907223
>2 most difficult

nope

>> No.907248

>>907186
10 is the easiest.
Triple blade is just metal blade mk 2. Then you just just easily farm the first half of chill man's level for easy and large numbers of bolts to buy energy tanks on the hardest difficulty.

>> No.907475

>>907158
Wh... What? Seriously? You think Megaman 4 was the hardest? Have you played any other Megaman in your life?

>> No.907478

>>907223
>2 and 4 in the front
You mean least to most right?

>> No.907480

2 and 6 were the easiest

>> No.907515

>>907204
This very much so.

I've always played the Megaman games where I only ever used the RM weapons during the RM fights were its the RM's weakness.

That makes the games harder. But once you use weapons, they turn into the wacky 80s anime adventure Inafune wanted MM2 to be.

But Dr. Wily's stages can eat a back of dicks.
I've yet to beat 4 because Dr. Cossack's Citadel is a drain on my resources and I I somehow lose all my finesse on the Robot Masters. Damn Pharaoh Man and Ring Man.

3 can't be harder than 4, I completed it.

God these NES fags are annoying. Go play the NES remakes if you have to. They don't deserve to be ignored just because you fags hate new hardware.

Apparently none of you actually played Megaman 1. It doesn't have a password system. So the reason you beat it easily is save states. Pussies.

>> No.907763

>>907756
...people use the password system in Mega Man games? I've never not beaten them in one sitting. If I don't beat them when I play them I just start over again next time.

>> No.907764

>>907756

This post makes no sense because the password system in Mega Man doesn't make the game any easier. All it does is let you continue without having to leave your system on.

And Mega Man 1 isn't even hard, passwords or not.

Mega Man Unlimited was released today. Playing it now. Pretty hard I think.

It has no passwords and no continues. This alone means that when you run out of lives you must completely restart the game.

So you're both basically admitting you have no idea what you're talking about.

But that's wrong.

>> No.907809

7 and 9 are both great, 8 was the victim of the CD generation and voice acting gimmicks, and 10 was unable to have the freshness that 9 had.

>> No.907875

>>907809
9 and 10 are exactly the same shit. You just say 10 wasn't as fresh because the nostalgia was no longer warranted since 9 had come out.

>>907792
X and X2 are good. Beyond that, nothing.

I love when someone who has no idea what they're talking about insults people for having no idea what they're talking about

megaman 1 is a game I am incapable of completing.
Its so fucking boring I cant continue in it. Only about 30% of the screens have any enemies to fight. Most of the content is a lame platforming sections. Mega man's jumping controls do not make for very interesting platforming which is why as the series went along they focused less and less on jumpin and more on shooting and dodging.

For me 2 represents the basics of megaman. its not very polished at all. Lots of the segments are boring with enemies that are positioned too easily or dont have a difficult patterns. The bosses are piss-easy. They do crap damage, half their attacks will miss without you even trying to dodge. Its an average quality that is praised as the best because for most players, it was the only one they could actually get far in. In other words they liked it because it was easy.

3 represents the first truely good game. With the slide added dodging became a lot more complicated and enemy/boss patterns got more aggressive and faster.

4 was an even further improvment on the series and was my personal favorite. The charge up was added giving megaman the ability to do burt shots. This made the game even more complicated. Bosses were fast and agile and doing damage required good accuracy with the charge shot. Enemies too were positioned in tricky ways, requiring that you land well placed shots instead of just spamming the shoot butten

Megaman 5 didn't advance the series. In order to avoid feeling stale compared to 4 it focused more stage gimmicks. The same could be said of 6

7 8 9 and 10.

none of these games are terrible fucking games.

Do you kids even know what the word "terrible" means?

>> No.908024

5 is hands down the easiest of the original series. Tons of E-tanks all over the place, a charged shot so overpowered that it renders most of the weapons you get from the RMs almost completely irrelevant, and the hilariously OP brokenness that is Beat

It doesn't even begin to get challenging until the later half of the game, and even then it's mostly a joke except for a few tricky jumps in the Wily stages.

3 is also pretty damn easy if you abuse the hell out of Rush Jet to cheese your way through half the game.

The Darkmen bosses can be tough shit, I dunno if it's really THAT easy

>> No.908086

>Darkmen

Dude, not really. Go fight them again. I finished 5 the other day for the very first time and I read them like a book.

Hardest one is probably the one with the reflector shield that rotates, but once you time your evasion with his shield he's a pushover.

>> No.908101

1 is the hardest, 7 is a shitty game that doesn't even play like the other megaman games, 8 played great and had a lot of charm but i can understand why people wouldn't like it, 9 was an excellent addition to the series, haven't played 10, my opinions are the correct opinions, im out

We love ourselves some Mega Man. Also, Anon started a thread about having never played the series and documented his progress.

Then Mega Man Unlimited was released, and now we're in full-on Mega Man overload.

Of course, there's also the fact that of all the retro series, Mega Man is one that holds up really well. Still challenging, still fun, still looks pretty good even in its earliest incarnations.
