This soundtrack is so hard to place, I like it yet it's not tuneful and very random, it is however nice at conveying an unusual atmosphere. Sailor Moon R on SNES gets https://youtu.be/2pwUX1_uGg4 however - I used to hate this game's ost based on playing as far as the first stage and finding it 'unsuiting' but as a melancholic interlude it's similar and just used for fighting through Christmas decorated Juuban.

Weird dreamlike osts thread?

That SM game has a great OST. I feel the composer captured the feel of the music from the anime series, and made original songs. It sounds fantastic with that Mega Drive sound.
>>9071173
I have yet to play the Super Nintendo beat 'em ups. I know the first one is basically similar to the Mega Drive game but with some changes. I assume different music too. I wanna play it and the sequel.
I loved that music, if that plays on a xmas stage, then yeah it's very fitting.
Anyway I like when there's a sort of gap between the music and what's happening on the screen. Like playing peaceful or whimsical music while heavy action is going on, it makes for a good contrast sometimes.
Music from the DBZ Butoden games come to mind, especially Super Butoden 2.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EdeRk8l802o
this one is a classic and yet it's only a piano piece, like a sort of classical toccata. It wouldn't seem like it'd fit a fighting game, yet it does, it's very tense yet at the same time beautiful and melancholic.
Then there's Zangya's theme
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2rMJMNyN3kQ
This one sounds like it'd fit an RPG, like music when you're exploring the woods or something. Yet I really love how comfy it is and gives battles a sort of lighthearted feel. it's funny playing Broly vs Bojack with Zangya's theme hehe.

>Always like the bright colorful characters, the outfits, wanted to collect merchandise of them and dress up like them for Halloween
>Never thought about the deeper aspects of the show
>Grow old and make good money
>Buy the entire redone manga collection
>Realize the entire premise of the show is a bunch of girls that are cursed to live and die forever
>They can't even live their lives like girls should, they always have to protect the queen and eventually die for her someday.

Man, I watched Utena the other year, then realised every fan/blogger/explorer of it seems to be transoid. I don't care, shit's good and while going against gender and sexual norms is a theme of the show, so is the extent love and status corrupts, and protecting what you hold dear in whatever fucked up dimension the academy exists in. Seeing as you can never leave (unless it's whatever the alternate universe the movie exists in and you can only leave IN STYLE) it's just a surreal universe that always feels somewhat oppressive. You can watch it with your gender intact, but you're still going gay for the buffet of manliness that is Akio, and riding in his car. Or just enjoying best girl Nanami.

Friendly reminder that anime isn't going to turn you trans, if you're trans you were always going to be trans. If you're not trans then you won't have any piece of media turn you trans. Simple as that.

Because any sort of anime from the glory days that has a same sex couple, or something goofy and silly like Ranma, has been hi-jacked by these people and they use it for their own demented purposes. Not saying either of you do, but it a lot of them do.

People recognizing trans allegory themes (intentional or otherwise) in media and appreciating it for that isn't "hijacking it for demented purposes"

>Sailor Moon is about teenage girls being unable to enjoy life because they're aware they're caught in a death loop and are destined to die in combat soon.
I'm a zoomer and have hardly any memories of Sailor Moon, but I had no idea the premise was that dark. How on the nose is the series about this stuff? The series is still ultimately a silly show about Japanese Barbies with superpowers hanging out and fighting generic evil, right?

>> No.9079231

>>9079174
The show, yes. The original manga, far from it. The prequel manga Sailor V was more in line with the anime, but even that got dark near the end as it approached the inevitable moment where Minako swears her life to Usagi.

>> No.9079238

>>9079174
For the most part yea, the girls do enjoy life but often times have to sacrifice themselves for the princess, like the entire first battle with queen Beryl is all the scouts killing themselves so Sailor Moon can get to her.
The entire galaxia scenario also has the scouts dying one by one till its just a massively grief wracked Usagi left.
