What does /vr/ own that's rare, valuable, or just plain interesting? Developer kits and source codes, game show merch, and general oddities are welcome here.

Probably didn't see much of a reason to do a wide release. It was $40, and you got a game, a memory card, a GBA/GC link cable, and a box. Probably costed too much to produce a huge quantity of.

I know jap version wont work with us games, but would the euro version? If there was a action replay code to let you use a jap copy, id just do that.
Nintendo Power should have offered this as a resubscription offer like they did the zelda collection and prime 2 bonus disc.

Traded in, devkits are just kind-of fine though. You test your games on it, neat. Cool that Philips integrated a floppy drive to more quickly test software on. This is another CDi unit, it's a very interesting model.

The display pops up, this unit was working but I didn't take a photo of it on. The screen is a backlit LCD, of acceptable quality for the mid 90s. The story behind is it incredible--

Apparently as Philips was trying to get CDi units into the wild, they would have door-to-door salesmen carry these around to demo them to buyers. They would show the software on the LCD and pitch the units from there. The integrated controller helped with this. The fact this was their approach for selling the CDi format to people was hilarious, obviously it didn't work out too well but it brought the world really novel hardware and a funny story. Imagine some dude in a suit showing you the CDi experience with this at your front door.

The real bout special behind Bert Blyleven is a Korean version which is pretty rare afaik. Basically the same as US version with slightly different cart. Manual and stuff are identical to Us. I think there are some minor differences with the rom too like missing voice samples

Never used a modded Wii. Do you mean just get the US rom on it, or do you mean the Nintendont software would provide compatibility between a US Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald and Jap/Euro version of a Box disc?
Something i doubt is "expensive", but certainly not something i ever see that i own, is an official version of Gunstar Heroes for PC from either the late 90s or early 2000s. Pretty sure its just an emulator on a disc, but im not 100% sure. Its a fine experience regardless and was my only version of the game i had for many years till i got a cart couple years ago. Was likely Japan only and it seems like it may have been a part of a series of mega drive pc titles since a menu on the disc advertised Rent A Hero and Alien Soldier.

I can confirm this works without issue. Made a living dex this way a few years back.

Ultimate Gen3 setup is
-Backlit GBA, Cart
-DS with the cart slot, R4 card with save dumper
-PC with gen 3 save manager, for dumping in event/version exclusives you can't get and checking / deleting stacks of eggs without having to hatch them
-Modded vertical wii, USB thumbstick with pokemon box
-GBA>Gamecube Link Cable

The really nice thing about this setup is it also takes the busywork out of Emerald cloning; just

>Backup Save with DS Lite

I'm not really interested in dev stuff (well, wouldn't mind an IS Nitro DS Capture device or a Wide Boy) but with flashcarts/ODEs etc. nowadays you can mostly get away with pirating anything you care to play. I am interested though in stuff that can't really be pirated or emulated effectively.

All that comes to mind are cartridges like Boktai/WarioWare Twisted, or special controllers like the NeGcon. Can you guys think of anything else in that vein?

That's good to know. I've only tried traditional emulators for it.
I already own all the consoles and computers I have any interest in so I haven't bothered with a MiSTer setup.
Even with regular ass PC emulators, I really only notice the sound differences in certain games like Blazing Lazers and Devil's Crush.
