I saw some dude playing on Genesis, you can do it as the game expect you. However, I did play with it on Snes, even with save states, it seems impossible to beat normally the way it's intended. On Snes you have to use L/R to scroll the screen so that maggie can shoot the sucker. A function that's missing on the Genesis ver I believe

Look at the platforms correctly, the insta kill (or well, rocks low enough, because it's possible to do this to one yourself) will glow/have fire around or something, it's subtle enough that you won't get it if you try going fast. Otherwise, you have to properly balance the rocks. Every rock you press on, will elevate another. It's outright designed to fuck you over if you rush at some places, you really gotta be careful and jump on higher stones to open up a path
You have infinite time. Just take your time, and the eggs, while you can grab all of them them, they're mostly traps

Bart vs Space Mutants on Genesis was underwhelming to me. The graphics are "better" but don't look as nice as the NES original somehow, maybe something about the art direction. And IIRC it lacks the simpson music theme.
