Is /vr/ good at button mashing?
You don't use Turbo controllers, right?

>> No.9036561

I only (s)mash the like buttons for the longplays I watch. Does anybody actually play games in this board? Creepy.

controller with turbo buttons is literally all dendi had

I'm really good at doing that technique where you vibrate your hand and hit the same button super fast. Used to always help people with stuff like the torture sequence in Metal Gear Solid. But I have a feeling it was bad for my hand, because it feels a bit arthritic now. Maybe unrelated, but I doubt it helped so I don't do it as much anymore.

>>9036547
I use turbo controllers when available. Although a lot of the games I play have auto-fire built-in.

Games are my property and I cheat every way that's possible.

>> No.9037235

>>9036547
i would use a turbo controller if i had one, but i know a good strategy for mashing anyway so it's whatever til i get arthritis at least
put your thumb on the inner part of your index finger, and the other fingers held out to not disrupt, with either the controller down or held with the other hand, and rapidly tap the button you gotta mash like you're clicking a pen on a desk

That's a noob strategy. You generally mash like this in dadcore shmups.

I know you are joking but for longplays check World of Longplays. These guys are doing it for decades without a single spoken word on their videos.

>> No.9039376

Not amazingly good at it but I still can do something about it. My biggest problem is, most controllers, specially brand new, are too tactile. This makes it so that when releasing the finger from the button, I have to lift it up more before pressing again. Sticking to the bottom and to the top like that makes it harder for me. I have a really old SNES gamepad and the buttons are barely tactile, but not mushy and unresponsive. Mashing on those is really easy because I barely have to move my thumb to mash. I wish I could do something on other d-pads to get a similar feel, but they're all stiff as shit. Specially the xbone controller.

>> No.9039414

I'm decent at it I think.
buttonmashing/pummeling is definitely a /vr/ thing that originated in arcade style gaming, and it requires actual motor skills and endurance skills. It's not like it should be the main mechanic in any game but it's not a bad mechanic if used correctly.
People would often criticize games like bayonetta for the "QTE", but the actual QTE in Bayonetta were far and in between, probably not more than 5 in the whole game. But people mistake pummeling with QTE.
QTE is also from arcade origins too, though it's less about skill and more about just memorization, sometimes it can be argued QTE require good reaction times, but eh.

Why would I watch a game when every retro game ever made is a click away?

>> No.9039558

>>9039414
>But people mistake pummeling with QTE
Nobody does, that's ridiculous. QTEs are annoying garbage because you can't even watch the cutscene in peace. You're instead assaulted with a 1 second window to react that otherwise kills you. They're exclusively known for infesting modern action games.

>> No.9039576

>>9039558
>Nobody does
Well at least in my experience they do. When I was very into Bayonetta and posted in /v/ threads about it, many idiots were confusing the pummeling calling them QTEs. Could have been trolls but I honestly think it's just ignorant people.

I am awful at videogames but I always refused to use turbo. Strangely I did use cheats to beat games I found too difficult but controllers with turbo and other hardware forms of cheating felt dirty to me

QTE: have to press a button once, at a very specific time
Pummel: you are given a visual cue that you can start mashing the button but it doesn't really matter if you do it the exact same second so much as you're actually good at consistently pressing it fast consecutively.

I guess it's good to know where this shit originated from, but still, japs put them in way more drawn sequences, at which point most people assume they're taking a breather to watch a cutscene.

It is cheating though. It's a tool not available to everyone plus no games were developed with turbo in mind. You're a filthy cheater and I bet you use save states and rewinds too.
