DL3 is a step down from Super Star in every way. Ultra slow, kiddy art style, and gimmicky levels where you have to help NPCs to 100% the game by solving inane puzzles or playing lame minigames. What were HAL thinking?

Well first you have to get EVERY Heart Star to see the true ending, and most of them are insanely cryptic unless you have a guide open next to you, and then they're just incredibly tedious. Most of them involve a bunch of steps after you're already deep into the level and if you fuck up once you have to start the level all over again. The manual and game do a terrible job of explaining your abilities and how you can use them to interact with things. It's just not fun.

Nah. More games should be like this. Most games doesn't do this anymore because locking content behind a gate that most players won't ever see is money wasted (disappointing, I know. There's never any good 100% rewards anymore). But if you know what you're doing, this is like a 3 hours game man

They're not that hard to figure out. Most of the stage's goal makes a sound when accessing the room with the objective and most objectives sticks out like a sore thumb and I figured out all this shit as a 10 years old with no Internet. The only one that really stumped me for a while was the Green/Purple spring thing in World 1 that you had to touch with the pink girl without any abilities. And maybe the Rick (The Hamster) stage one because I didn't know he could wall jump (you can cheese it with a second controller by making the second player teleport to you)

I had time to burn. I don't remember where I started, just picked up where they were playing, early in the game. We were taking turns hand had gotten to the standard ending within 2hrs.

The only reason I remember 2hrs was because their dads car broke down and he needed a lift from work, in 2hrs.

You know that you don't have to immediately get Heart Star in every level? You can, like, go ahead and see how the mechanics are working. You can even finish the game with normal ending. And then, when you'll understand how it works and return to previous stages, you'll notice there are little to no options of what you can do with the creature, you'll subtract everything that won't work by your logic.

Or you could just throw away ability and do a normal attack right at the start.
It's really that simple.
I don't know what else to say, it's a rookie test. KDL2 had it too and it was much more ass in my opinion, despite game being way smaller in amount of content.

Not him but you did a pretty shitty job at justifying it. You basically just said "just try everything everywhere!" But the game and manual do a really shitty job at explaining the abilities.

Out of the 48 animal buddy combinations, the manual only shows pictures for 6 of them. It tells you to find the rest on your own, and it even tells you that a bunch of them are useless. It doesn't explain how you can use any of them. It would have been really useful to know that Kine + Electricity can reveal secret doors!

It doesn't help that there is little indication you can even interact with the creatures that need help. They aren't even solid objects for crying out loud, how are you supposed to know your abilities can affect stuff you can pass right through?

On top of that, the animal buddies suck to use most of the time compared to Kirby himself, so why would you even want to experiment with them? Why did the game discourage experimenting with the abilities that are required to beat the game? Not to mention you're required to use some combos you'd never want to use otherwise.

Like for example, for one of the Heart Stars you need to use Pitch + Broom to water some plants. Yeah, you read that right. Somehow, combining Pitch with the broom ability makes him lob a drop of water. How the fuck were you supposed to know that? And why would you combine the worst ability with one of the worst buddies? It's so unintuitive! It doesn't even clearly look like water either, it's a blue blob that's darker than the rest of the water in the game.

And all of this is incredibly shitty because you are REQUIRED to get EVERY Heart Star to get the actual ending. It's not like DKC2 where the Lost World gives you a nice, extra-flashy, but optional ending. In Dream Land 3 it's incredibly obvious that the regular ending is not the real one. You didn't get to face off against the main villain of the game. You don't even get the real credits!

>> No.9034395

It's incredibly unfulfilling, but in order to get the real ending you have to suffer through the cryptic, tedious chore of collecting all the Heart Stars. It's a lose-lose situation.

For all the flack they get for being cryptic, the first two Zeldas were nowhere near as obtuse as Kirby's Dream Land 3, and they came out 10 years earlier. There is no excuse. It's such a shame that the swan song for one of the greatest consoles of all time sucks this hard.

Thanks for posting another reminder of how obtuse this game is.

You actually think people are morons if they don't immediately figure out that they have to shape star blocks a few rooms away into the shape of the weird creature you saw at the beginning of the level? That's not the first thought that crosses anyone's head. Not to mention the one later in the game when you have to make the shape upside down to what you're shown with zero indication that you need to do so.

It's like this game was made to sell Nintendo Power. Which would actually make sense since they weren't likely to make lots of money off such a late release.
