What's a decent lightweight shader for Retroarch?

>> No.9019386

Just add some blur filter

Probably anything that isn't royale and then you change the parameters to your liking and setup.
Royale is what I use and I have a toaster so idk how lightweight you want them though

On a toaster, I had the best results with ReShade. On RetroArch I would choose the ones that had Intel in the name since I assume they're targeted at low-end computers and it seems to be my experience.

It depends of the type of game you're playing. To me Lottes works very well with downscaled games which have pixel graphics (ps1 etc).
You just need to check out few shaders and decide which one is the best for yourself.

Forgot to add that if you're in doubt just use crt_easymode and call it a day...

What game is this? Something for the PS1 I presume?

If you need to go even more lightweight, there's zfast.

This single gif has convinced me to use a CRT filter. The difference is night and day. How many games have I played that could have looked that much better? and I grew up thinking filters and shaders were sacrilege. I was wrong.

>graininess, banding, dithering, blotchy color gradients
It's shame that so much of the Playstation's 2D output is marred by developers trying to "fake it" within the limitations of 24bit color depth.

Also for me, the gif in this thread and this one make me regret not having looked into CRT filters instead.
Where can I find a site that compares the different filters for different machine emulators?

What's the filter used in the OP image?

crt-royale-xm29-plus I think

>> No.9021829

I like the IDEA of shaders, but I just don't fucking get why people keep defaulting to Royale. It looks like shit. Not only does it not look like a CRT, it doesn't look like what people THOUGHT CRTs looked like. I don't understand how people don't realize these shaders literally go in the opposite direction and make the picture to drab and dark, when the defining element of CRT phosphors was how brightly they glowed and bled.

>> No.9021843

Blure the pixels
Sscannline ammount down to 10 or 15
On a real crt you dont really see the scannlines
Wht you want is prevent color bleeding and breake the pixels without too much scannline intensity.

>> No.9021968

>>9021829
People use different monitors with different settings and usually change the parameters of the shader to their liking. I doubt they are trying to get the same exact look as crts and instead are simply going for something that to them looks better than "raw" on modern monitors.
Keep in mind that crt displays and their setups weren't the same back in the day either.

>> No.9021971

I have never once in my life appreciated scanlines. I think it just looks terrible. I'd rather have a pixelated mess.

No judgment but that seems to be the most popular shader around here which is funny because of how much it fucks up the colors
Goes to show that accuracy ain't all that cracked up to be.

>> No.9022186

>>9022183
Accuracy in emulation has always been a complete meme.
An accurate N64 emulator would have to replicate its horrendous memory issues that can bring frame rates to a crawl. It's asinine.

xm29p is a custom preset of royale
royale has a bunch of presets

>> No.9022398

Oh for sure, but XM29 seems to be the most popular preset for it. That orange tint it has is really distinctive.
