I saw a 15 dollar Sega Genesis with a controller and connectors at my local flea market today.I didn't buy it, because I can't think of a single fun genesis game.

Make me regret it

It's the only memorable game from the Genesis, IMO.

I'm pretty sure this is only the North American side of the coin. Nintendo was much more popular then the Genesis (by common consensus) in the states compared to the Genesis. I believe the flipside is true for Europe, and the prices are likely reversed for PAL SNES games compared to MD games.
If someone from Europe could correct me if I'm wrong, that would be wonderful, as I'm not familiar with the European market.

uh no.
Genesis NA sales - 22.4−23.9 million
SNES NA sales - 23.35 million

>> No.905247

>>905228
Not that I don't trust you, but where did you get those figures? Even though they are close, 22.4-23.9 is a bit of a gap, especially when the figure for the SNES sales is sandwiched inbetween. (also I erroneously used the phrase 'genesis'. I meant Sega, referring to the companies, but the idea is nonetheless the same)

nintendo has the sales figures on their japan website, genny's I got from wikipedia also checked their sources which seem legit.

the reason for the gap in the genesis figures are that Sega never officially released the sales figures, also theres third party genesis systems which I figure are hard to keep track of sales for.

The SNES/Genny were neck and neck back in the day (think PS3/360), but Sega really fell from grace after the 32x incident, yadda yadda yadda, there aren't many diehard Sega fanboys left (and who can blames them with Sega's post-2003 output), while a new Nintendo fanboy is made every few minutes.

Hence the market.

Model 1 with 'High Definition Graphics" were the superior models with better sound/clearer picture. Model 2 and 3 buyers beware!

Thunder Force IV, aka LIGHTENING FORCE QUEST OF THE DARKSTAR, is indeed probably one of the best shooters out there for the Genesis. I like it better than MUSHA myself, but only because MUSHA is way easier.

Thunder Force III is also on the genesis, and while it looks a little more primitive, is plenty fun.

Thunder Force V is on the PS1, and while its 3D doesn't hold up completely in some places, it's pretty fun.

Same. Even rarer games like Moonwalker, Ghostbusters and Sunset Riders can be bought at a bargain.

Not like SNES where they sodomize you with your own wallet. I'm still pissed that I had to pay almost $80 for Earthbound a couple years back. I couldn't even imagine buying it now.

Strtaight up. The only Genesis game that comes to mind when I try to think of expensive or overpriced ones are the Toejam and Earl games, but even at ripoff merchants you can find them for $20 - $35, a number, depressingly , considered low for some SNES gems.

I really hope that made sense because I'm super tired and I feel like everything I say is complete gibberish.

Outside of Saturn, most Sega games are very reasonably priced. The Dreamcast still has a few expensive games (like people who still want $50 for MvC2, even though the rerelease destroyed the market) but even it is quite reasonable
