What horror game do you like the most? SH2 for me. I was going to replay the first 4 games but I might try out something else.

I feel like my view of the genre is distorted by how iconic the RE and SH trilogies are. Outside of them it's kind of barren. There's some oddball Japanese stuff on the ps1, fatal frame and clocktower are alright, siren is...siren, and then there's just a sea of The Suffering tier trash.

I've honestly never played any horror games that weren't RE or SH (at least any that I can remember).
That's mostly why I made this thread. Maybe someone can recommend a nice game or two.

Of the b tier console franchises fatal frame is definitely worth checking out, maybe skip the first one and play 2.

echo night is a ps1 title worth checking out though it's more of a gloomy adventure game, you give closure to lost souls, the horror component is basically rushing to turn on the lights with clunky 5th gen fps controls to make the ghosts non hostile, back before fromsoftware became an annual sportsgame publisher.

thief TDP(thief gold ruins one of the best horror levels in the original version) is a surprisingly effective horror game hidden in a stealth game.

As far as point and clicks, Harvester, it even has a real life horror story attached.

Idk about b tier but I'm playing ff 1 and 2 atm. Ff 1 really picks up at demon tag, it's a visually beautiful game and well directed. It's not resident evil, it takes a much slower tension filled approach, really good game so far even if I think the scariest game of all time hype is extremely overblown.

Fatal Frame 1 is just as good as 2, 2 just gets hyped up more for some reason, but the game is piss easy. Maybe that's why it's every e-celeb's favorite. Don't skip any of the first 3 Fatal Frame games.

As for other horror games, you've got RE and SH. I've yet to finish Siren, but it's wonky. Corpse Party is technically retro, since I think the original version came out in '98, but play whatever the most updated version of that game is...something like Corpse Party RF I think it's called. I think Clock Tower on SNES or PSX has a mouse hack that makes it better to play.

>that VN
The most unforgettable horror porn game I've ever played. No other game had a bunch of elementary schoolers gangbang a teenage girl against a wall. And the teenage girl loved it. No other game I've played had a 17 year old bishonen guy drink a 14 year old girl's piss and chase her down the hall to rape her, only to wind up getting anally raped by a 32 year old fat man. I still remember the scene where a 16-17 girl was hiding under a bed as her same age best friend was having sex with that same 32 year old fat guy on top. She heard every moan, bed shake and sound. In the wrong end she was discovered under the bed by her friend and made to join. A most terrifying scene was when an unwilling girl relives another girl's sex memories. The girl in the memory consented but the reliving girl didn't. It didn't matter that she was mentally screaming, her body in the memory did all the motions and actions as in history. It's like mind control rape except the victim was fully aware. Another scene the same girl and a friend were almost raped in a magic sex ritual, saved by the girl's older sister, and the backlash made the older sister want to rape her younger sister and friend.

The loli in this pic is freakishly lewd and once disguised herself as a teenage girl, fucked a boy until he nearly came, transformed back saying
>You thought you were having sex with a highschooler weren't you? I'm an elementary schooler all along!
And leglocks that boy, forcing him to cum inside her unprotected, when he screams in fear upon learning this. This isn't even getting into the tentacles, the gay sex, the lesbian sex, the incest, the sequel's mother/daughter lesbian scene, etc. The first chapter alone contains lots of lesbian sex scenes with an unavoidable girl masturbating in the bathroom. Truly horror is intrinsically connected with sexuality.

I think 2 has strong enough buildup on a first playthrough to work. The nurses and mannequins are scary enough when you're dreading a big bad making an appearance, and then the character drama takes over at the end. On repeat though it definitely suffers when you know the extent of the monsters you'll encounter.

I guess I prefer the same thing that everyone else does in the genre. I'll go with Silent Hill 3, probably for the music and its pretty amazing hardware-pushing visuals. Like, 6/10 or over?

Fatal Frame V, while not up to the standards of the originals on the PS2, was at the very least 'decent'.

I didn't really get that from Fatal Frame. I think it takes far more heavily from classic horror films like Jigoku, Kuroneko or Onibaba in its depiction of ghosts and in its atmosphere- or else from Akira Kiyoshi's movies. Sadako and Kayako are mostly just malevolent, whereas the ghosts in Fatal Frame are (with a few exceptions) all victims themselves in some way.

I don’t know what was happening in Konami around that time but they had a major reputation for making shit tier sequels that focused more on bullshit “narrative” and cack handed attempts at cinematic style story telling rather than game play, for example Reddit Gear Solid 2, Suireddit 2, Redditvania: Symphony of the Upvote all suffer from this problem.

That's what I said, yes.
'Worst' doesn't equate to 'bad game'.
FFV still retains the fun of the core gameplay and has some cool narrative ideas and ghost concepts. Is that really all negated for you because the characters' breasts oscillate a bit more that they did in the PS2 games?

Can you try to speak normally, by the way? You're not impressing anyone by trying to use as much trendy 4chan vernacular as possible, it just makes you sound incoherent and deranged more than anything else.
