n64fags - do you fix your limp sticks or do you buy a new OEM controller that's still tight?

I lube up all my controllers. My most worn out controllers I replaced with kitsch bent parts. Pretty satisfied with them.

>> No.8988857

I bought two brand new OEM controllers and have been using one of them. The other is for the future.
Luckily I thought to do so when things were cheap.

I still need to get on with replacing the parts that are fucked up. So far I've gotten by with cleaning and lubing the stick bowl, but I'm worried it's not gonna be enough after 20+ years.

>> No.8988907

>>8988830
No replacement parts will feel the same. Nothing you do the original parts will make it feel right again. All you can really do is keep an eye out for OEM ones with good sticks.

>> No.8988928

>>8988907
Definitely some truth to this. Got a lot of clean ones from Japan.

However, kitsch bent with a new bowl dont feel terrible depending on your sensitivity. I’d say they get to a good 7/10.

>>8988894
If they are worn down you really do need to replace or repair the bowl and gears. Lube won't replace the ground down plastic.

I think with lube they will last a good while. If not everything breaks down eventually. You cant take this shit when you die.

Somewhat related, the Saturn Shiro group recently interviewed the designer of the Saturn Virtua Gun, 3D Controller, and the Dreamcast controller and he had some interesting comments on all three 5th gen systems analog sticks.

Says you. I'm entombing my home or at least my room with poured concrete over rebar. Anyone who wants to scavenge my collection are more than welcome to brave the various traps and irritations I will have set up. How? Consoles are what, a hundred bucks at the most? You'll get a controller bundled or you could find a bundle with an unfucked controller and maybe spend $150. Now you spend $80 on ED64+ and also pickup $10 s-video cable. Now you can play the whole library as it was intended.
Pretty sure an SNES or Genesis with good video output is more expensive than this, even a Dreamcast or PS1 will be more pricey if you want to get accessories like a light gun and clean controllers.

I have two n64 controllers and both sticks are limp since forever now.
Last year I bought a brawler64 controller, the one with game cube stick and it's kinda bad. I noticed more input lag compared to the og controller and I didn't like the gc stick for n64 because it seems to be more sensitive, precision movements are harder.

I don't know what to do bros :'(

>> No.8990580

Are the n6r sticks supposed to grind? Like there's some chunky resistance when pushing to the far edges in certain directions. I have two controllers and they both feel like this. The sticks aren't particularly loose or anything, they just feel kind of shitty in general

>> No.8990618

>>8990580
No, that’s why you need to lubricate them. The control stick will destroy the inside of the bowl it sits in by grinding away the plastic as you use it.
Pickup some grease, watch a YouTube video and save your controllers before it’s too late.

Even assuming you get the shitty chink knockoff that's still like 200 bucks.
You also *need* a memory card and expansion pak for another 60 bucks.
And that's assuming you are OK living without RGB mod.
If you want to get that it's another 200 bucks for the HDMI out unless you have already have a scaler set up which would make be even more money.
>just use a CRT bro lmfao
That's assuming everybody kept their old CRTs around and can just dust them off... so more money still!

It's not a cheap console. Especially if you don't already have a retro setup.

dude you arent buying shit for $25. basically any console costs bare minimum 70-80 dollars nowadays. the only way youre finding anything for $25 is if you randomly stumble upon it at a yardsale or thrift store with a retarded owner, and even then 99% of the units you find are going to have issues or be covered in dirt and laced with dried piss, food, hair and pablo's bean gas. anyone who wants a console and isnt willing to spend 2 weeks going to yardsales hoping to find one in good condition by complete happenstance is going to need to go on ebay and drop $100 and thats the end of it
