Like a fool, I skipped this awesome game back in the day. Now I'm gonna play it until I cum blood.

Question: is the "holy symbol" a reference? Because it allows you to dive...

>> No.898735

Yes. You can also ride a tiger. You can see his stripes, but you know he's clean.

>> No.898740

>>898735
The Soul of Wolf is a wolf, not a tiger. it's clean, though.

>> No.898753

I think in japan the holy symbol used some play on words to reference Holy Diver by Dio and maybe the game of the same name, as irem basically stole konami's trevor belmont sprite when they made that game

The Holy Diver game was developed by Irem?

What's with NES games and using Castlevania sprites? Werewolf the last warrior had a character that looked like Simon without clothes.

Vampires can't be fully submerged in water or they take damage or some shit. This can only be circumvented by them holding a piece of wood from their coffin when they go under. It's something like that, or the Holy Diver thing. I forget which.

>> No.898975

Try to get the Crissaegrim Sword. It's the best sword in the game imo.

It's a snorkel. It's shaped like the letter J. For Jesus. Holy symbol.

It's the worst sword in the game because it removes all the fun. Pretend you never heard of it.

>> No.899270

>>898975
Nah. Best sword would be the Mablung. Nobody ever uses it, because they're too busy trying to doublefist Crissaegrims. I'll take the Mablung for shield shenanigans or the Fist Of Tulkas any day.

I think it's this
They just used a recognizable icon of something that people use to swim. I think there was another item like that. where the description and icon were different.

I remember playing this game a bit and dying a lot.
I was also disappointed because I was expecting it to have Dio music

So I've only ever actually played Castlevania SOTN and then some Castlevania on original gameboy.

If I LOVE it - and I like 2D platformers - can anyone chime in with any other suggestions from the series? Do any of the Gameboy Advance or DS titles live up to what SOTN was? Or is this by far and away the greatest one?

>> No.905269

>>905243
yeah they're all pretty much better than SOTN, they just take SOTN's formula and expand on it

>> No.905271

>>905269
Any suggestions for which ones are the best? And in what order? Would like to start with GBA then DS if possible, but whatever is out there I am in for.

>> No.905364

>>905271
Every CV game on GBA and DS is the goddamn same, and in my opinion, CV died after SotN was released.

Well...so if I don't feel like playing through it again, is any ONE game you'd recommend over any other??

Just kidding the replay value tor this is high

And get Crissaegrim in the inverted library.

play Aria of Sorrow for gba, or Order of Ecclessia for DS. I think they are all fun though but that's just me I suppose

Never played a game of Castlevania. Is this a good title to start with?

>> No.907667

>>907664
It's probably the best of the Metroid-style CVs. It's a great game but also painfully easy.

I think the best CV to start with is Rondo of Blood, which is the best entry in the classic-style CV and the best CV overall imo.

Alucard and Dracula's VAs are just fine. It's Richter that gets really corny, and even then some of his lines are hammy and fun as fuck. Maria is weakest, and she's just a little wooden. Besides, any true fan has already played it so much that they've memorized the lines anyway.

What you SHOULD do though is get the Saturn version up and running for playable Maria and pimpcoat Richter.

>> No.907742

>>907667
i agree. i downloaded rondo of blood and played the shit outta that one on my duo-r.
then i played sotn. when i had a chance to play it for saturn back in the day, i wasnt as interested

>> No.907854

>Fist of Tulkas
Good taste.

>>907735
If Saturn emulators weren't so shitty, I wouldn't have played the Saturn version only once. Running that shit is only worth the trouble if you already played the PS1 version and really want a version with more stuff. Or maybe just... buy a Saturn.

I'm gonna play the PSP version soon. How good/bad is it?

>> No.907868

>>907854

It's the same game with different VA work, which is better or worse depending on who you ask. As stated, I liked the cheesiness of the original, and found the new work really bland. It's just there. Nice to have the extra familiars and the extra song, though.

>> No.909246

>>907868
>>907854
If I remember correctly, it's based largely on the Saturn version, only maybe without the extra areas? I know it's got those additional familiars. It also nerfs Richter, and replaces Maria with the 2.5D Rondo Maria's playstyle. Obviously new translation, which I'm neither fond of nor unhappy with. It's just different.
