Figured maybe we could have an F-Zero thread. I've been playing pic related for the first time after having had this series at the back of my mind for ages and holy shit is it radical, everything from the aesthetics to the content to the ideal level of challenge. Used to have the arcade version at a local place but it disappeared a few years ago, really wish I got into this series sooner so I could've experienced it. Oh well. Definitely gonna try the previous games soon as well.

Can I get some tips? I'm playing for the first time too and shit is surprisingly brutal

I've recently got into WipEout, and it's been said that series was influenced by F-Zero, so I'm looking onto this series as well. The 64 one looks absolutely metal, I guess i will try it soon enough.

I can beat the SNES game on Master, but man F-Zero X fucks me hard in that difficulty, can't beat a single cup.
>>8987264
It's pretty cool, but I still prefer the SNES and N64 soundtracks.

64 is fun but GX is an arcade masterpiece. You will master 64 quickly. GX holds onto the very fast feel of 64 and adds alot of challenge from there. A very good melding of Sega and Nintendo. Sad they stopped there.

That's definitely the place to go after I'll finish it with the WipEouts.

Man, F-Zero GX is probably the one racer I've put the most time into (easily hundreds of hours) but I haven't touched it in years cuz my memory card died on me. The game is absolutely massive and there's no way around putting in raw time to unlock shit. X is also good but it doesn't quite scratch the itch for me.

I payed $70 for my copy of GX last year. i have a 1:37 in the mute city serial gaps. it is absolutely my favorite course. the music is awesome with the guitar riff. I like that twin car that is really light, but my fav is james mccloud

X vs GX feels like SMB3 vs SMW
Just accept the fact they're both fucking awesome and we're blessed they exist.

I recommend playing F-Zero X next, however if you want a real F-Zero X experience I recommend you either get a flash cart that can do DD stuff, or get comfortable emulating if you aren't. Either that or get ready to shell out big money. F-Zero X with the N64 DD Expansion Kit is a fucking phenomenal experience and after having gotten my DD I literally can't go back to F-Zero X standalone. The DD content is great but most might not be so impressed like I am. The track builder's hard to use if you can't read Japanese, but the DD cups and the new machines you get access to as well as the machine builder are really cool imo. Definitely make sure you're playing with the DD content.

The midi cock rock in X is a blemish on the game. Come on, it's one step away from tranny Touhou music. The circuits also look ugly as fuck with a palette that must have been selected by a colorblind dev. Game's damn good despite it all but fuck, the esthetics are true shit tier.

I'll never understand this viewpoint. GX's soundtrack is so much better because the tracks actually fit the course and atmosphere they set in and there is much more variety. Every track in X sounds the fucking same and some tracks are so generic they appear across multiple venues.

I never said it was "peak graphics" - the graphics are notoriously stripped down for smoothness. As for that gif, that's a jerky mess - I've never seen the game like that. And maybe that's a craft with poor handling or the player was going too fast and doing something retarded.
