Has anyone tried a run of MGS1 with minimal equipment pickups? I've checked and haven't seen any. I'm experimenting and watching videos to try to figure out what is essential and what can be skipped. As far as I can tell, the Socom and Famas are not required at all to beat the game. Nades can be used to kill Ocelot and blow up walls so you don't need the C4 either.

Required weapons:
>psg1
>nikita
>stinger
>grenades

skippable:
>chaff
>c4
>claymores
>stun grenades
>FAMAS
>Socom

Required items:
>scope
>cigs
>ID cards
>PAL card
>Optical disc
>rope

Skippable items:
>ration (technically)
>cardboard boxes
>thermal optics
>night vision optics
>mine detector
>gas mask
>diazapam
>cold medicine
>body armor
>camera
>suppressor

I've done some more research and testing, and it turns out the Socom is a required item afterall. If you don't grab it initially, it will appear in the guard shootout with Meryl, and Snake will grab it automatically in a cutscene.

This is also ignoring all the speedtranny tricks, which allow you to skip much of the game's content. This is just normal no glithc run.

Sounds theoretically possible but hard as fuck. I have to think that marathon stair run in particular would be brutal with minimal equipment

The run would come down to 3 encounters, ocelot fight, mantis fight, and the freight elevator sequence. The meryl shootout is famously easily cheesed, and nothing else in the game really has any need of the socom or famas.

desu doesn't really seem worth bothering with op. you're look at maybe 2 or 3 encounters that would be interesting, everything else in the game most items and weapons are kind of pointless outside of the required ones for progress.

I’ve been thinking about attempting a pacifist (aside from the bosses who you have to kill) run through the Gamecube version. I’m pretty sure that one has a tranquilizer gun. But I can’t remember if there are certain sections where you absolutely have to shoot through people.

What about these same rules for MGS 2 & 3?

Outside of puzzles I'm pretty sure you'd only need the stinger and sword.

Question is how many items do you have to use to beat the game? you may pick up the socom but you never have to fire it.

I might try this later tonight sounds like a fun challenge

This, the stairs are hell even with claymores and the body armor. Good luck getting through with only base items.

Also are we conserving ammo?
