I'd imagine that, with Alucard dead and Richter gone full dumbass, there's no one to put down Dracula and this wasteland is the end result. The monstrous skeleton is either some random schuck or maybe, given Dracula and Shaft's belittling his human side, what's left of Alucard, the cross probably being his, too.

All this to say that, for however beautiful the eternal night scene that Dracula presents may look, this ugliness is ultimately what his rule would amount to.

I'd agree that HoD is probably the most cryptic of the later games when it comes to this sort of thing, yeah. Shit, you can know to wear the ring perhaps from an earlier fuck up where the ending features Juste giving slight focus to it and still fuck up just from fighting Maxim in the wrong castle.

But I kind of like that. HoD's story revolves one big mystery about what the hell is going on with you probably figuring things out as soon as Juste does, and it's fitting that the right choice would be putting some faith in Maxim and doing what you can to bring out his better side by going after the spiritual(?) darkness taking over Maxim rather than assuming he's dead like Death and Maxim's darker elements embodied do. That's what Juste himself does, after all.

Given their content, CV games would likely have some theme or moral lesson going on, though whether they do anything with it is another. Really, it's probably just as much what you put into it that you get out of it with whatever plot a given CV game has going as a frame or whatever.
