RA1 is a spin-off. It has some of the features that define the setting but that's it. RA2 is a spin-off of a spin-off, because of how time travel doesn't really work.

Interesting. I don't remember release dates that well now.
So how is there no mention of Yuri, psionics, not two but three huge wars in the past, prism technology, tesla coils, GDI inhereting robot tanks from Allies, mirage technology, bases and combat on the Moon, flying saucers, magically self-replenishing ore and I think I'm missing a few?

>> No.8987851

>>8987705
Maybe it's just all in museums and movies and super normal. Like, when you play a game taking place in a modern war, surely your squadmates aren't all "hey remember zeppelins, Hiroshima and the moon landing?" all the time?

Like, yeah, there was a John Wayne movie about the allies beating Stalin and Rambo II takes place on the moon, big deal. But now holy mackerel here's an alien plant that shits even better ores than the ones we had for those two world wars, also that sexy bald dude on TV says UN forces are secretly mowing down civilians with laser satellites, now that's some real story. Not like those boring history channel documentaries on russian mind control.

>> No.8987854

I loved RA2 to death but I'v eplayed like 1 mission total of RA1. Is RA1 much of an improvement over C&C1?

>> No.8987861

>>8979647
C&C3 Kane's Wrath. It needs a few tweaks in the controls (some which they did in RA3) and it would be perfect.

>> No.8987872

>>8985176
The official idea was that RA1 and C&C is the same timeline, then in an upcoming game after Tiberian Sun, Nod trains psychic corps and finds a RA1 era Chronosphere and sends one of their acolytes back to change history. He lands in Soviet Russia and starts influencing Romanov, leading to RA2.

the game with this plot never got made due to Westwood folding. It was either for Tiberian Twilight (aka C&C3 at the time) or Continuum (some kind of MMO) or Renegade 2, I forgot which.

>> No.8987879

>>8987854
RA1 fixes a lot of the controls and improves the economy and the graphics. The stupid Harvester AI is almost the same though. Gameplay is much more enjoyable overall, especially single player where C&C1 was extremely unforgiving.

Also the music is even more legendary than C&C1.
RA1 is like C&C1 + shitload of quality fixes + even better FMVs and music.

>> No.8987920

>>8987872
That's Tiberian Incursion/Tiberian Twilight, but accoring to the dev it'd have splintered RA2 into its own timeline (because the Twilight guys didn't want the RA2 guys, who were another team, sharing their timeline), so obviously that's not the option that was retained for Renegade (and the source went on to work on Generals instead). See Adam Isgreen's quote there:

>those two world wars
Also, three world wars. WWI didn't just vanish anywhere just because WWII was Stalin attacking the Allies instead. And since it's apparently in the same setting as RA2, that's WWI, WWII in RA1 and WWIII in RA2.

>boring history channel documentaries on russian mind control
Yeah, as long as it's fake. Wait, it's not, and mind control would be a colossal asset to Nod. Shame they are honor-bound to never ever use it. Just like GDI. And everyone else in the "same" setting.

>> No.8987965

>>8987920
>but accoring to the dev it'd have splintered RA2 into its own timeline
Yeah, that was what I was implying. C&C3 would've had that part that "explains" how RA2 comes to be, as an entirely separate timeline.

But only two with the magical ore as far as we know, since apparently WW1 went completely normally
>Shame they are honor-bound to never ever use it
As far as RA2 continuity goes Yuri's the only one who ever made the tech work, and the psi corps were all revealed to be Yuri clones. So once he was out of the picture the tech was unusuable. Even if you assume the merged timeline post-YR is one where he survived locked up in the isolation chamber, you can see how GDI would never risk making a deal with him and it's quite possible Nod wouldn't either, if they were able to find him at all.

Ah yes, ancient space magic. Sorry, "time travel".

>Even if you assume the merged timeline post-YR is one where he survived locked up in the isolation chamber, you can see how GDI would never risk making a deal with him and it's quite possible Nod wouldn't either, if they were able to find him at all.
The only reasonable thing out of this fanfic. Because GDI at the absolute least would be using prisms, mirages and robot tanks left right and center if it really was the same setting.

Whenever I see this pic, I remember a time about ~10 years ago when I could have picked up a big box edition of this game for $1 dollar. I had already spent a bunch of money on other games and passed it up. Stupid ass me.

The second-hand PC game market has since completely dried up in my area.
